SOME SUPPORTERS WONT LIKE THIS OR AGREE ?

Vince a Alms Opinion of yesterday game :thumbright:

Vince Alm
The slade out and possession stats obsessors won't like this.

hard fought point in a dour game lit up with pockets of good play mainly from Cardiff. created the best opportunities and looked the more likely in the final third. They should have been down to 10 men half time and but for a couple of blocks cardiff would have taken three points comfortably.
another mom performance from the mercurial Whittingham who sprayed the ball around with aplomb and got us on the front foot quickly.

The supporters who attended yesterday game whether they thought it was a spectacle or not will agree when Huddersfield had all the possession for the first 35 minutes I can't remember any scoring opportunities just a couple of long range hopeful efforts. With there best chance of that half coming from a breakaway when we were on top top draw save from Marshall.
well done cardiff onto wigan expect another hard fought battle with little champagne football but we are showing signs and I fancy us to scrape three points.

Great to see that Whittingham was again getting us on the front foot faster and, in my opinion, he is being helped massively by this lad Kennedy who is absolutely excellent at keeping possession. In comparison to Craig Noone who seems to give the ball away at will Kennedy holds onto the ball and brings other players, like Whittingham, into play higher up the field where is exactly where we need him with the ball.

I will NEVER understand why so many of our fans constantly dump on Whitts as, in my opinion, he is OVERALL our most effective player. People may laugh at that statement but right now Whitts is one of only 5 outfield players to have played every minute of every Championship game this season, he also makes on average more than 25% more passes than any other Cardiff player, and at just under 81% he is 5% higher in pass completion than any other Cardiff player, has more assists than any other Cardiff player. Sadly under RS he has for the first time in his 8 seasons with us hit more long balls than through balls but I don't blame him for that as it's down to the way Slade has the team set up.

We all know that Whitts hasn't been in his best form this season and I know it's a cliche but form is only temporary and class is permanent, and at this level that's what Whitts is - CLASS.

I think we will win on Tuesday we are due a win away from home but don't expect a great performance there pitch cut up bad the other night by the rugby league and the rain isn't doing the pitch any favours bad tme to go to Wigan more so when there season is starting but still fancy us in the mud we will have to slog this one out .should we win on Saturday which for me is a big game because wolves are in the mix for promotion and are not a bad side then we will be safe as houses but we need a win first at wigan

I was at the game and whilst I didn't think Whitts was rubbish I certainly don't remember him setting the world alight either.

The game was dour and for most of the game we were second best.

You do understand that as some players get older they are no longer the players they once were, right?

Could it not be that Whittingham no longer has the appetite for the game that he used to have, or perhaps his legs can't take him to where he wants to be?

It may well be that Whitts no longer has the appetite for the game but it's not showing in his performances, he still gets himself on the ball more than any other Cardiff player, completes more passes per game than any other Cardiff player, has a far greater pass completion supplier than any other Cardiff player, has fewer poor touches per game than any other Cardiff player, gives the ball away less than any other Cardiff player, has more assists than any other Cardiff player and is one of only 5 outfield players in the entire Championship to have played every minute of every Championship game this season.

If nothing else that final stat shows that he most certainly has the "legs" for this division and the rest clearly shows he has the appetite for the game.

I understand age catches up with every player eventually but, in my opinion, Whitts is a very long way away from that situation.

He's not likely to burn himself out, that's for sure.

As you say ... all about opinions.

What I will say for him though, he has had a remarkable attendance record for us throughout his time here; seldom gets injured and if he does he just picks himself up and carries on. It's funny how players like him can get clattered and carry on and yet the same challenge on someone like Super Kev would see him sidelined for a few weeks - not knocking Super Kev - that's just the way it is with different players' abilities to bounce back. So full-marks to Whittingham on that.

Re: SOME SUPPORTERS WONT LIKE THIS OR AGREE ?

Whitts is Whitts......If he could run around all day and tackle with controlled aggression he wouldn't be our problem, they would be moaning about him on a top 6 premier league forum.

Malky for all his faults realised this. You put legs and energy around him, drop him back into the quarter back role and let him control the direction and pace of play. It worked until all the other teams in the championship had the mantra stop Whitts stop Cardiff. Malky couldn't work out what to do when they put someone on Whitts, the ultimate no plan b. Luckily for us by the time the rest of the division sussed this we have a bagfull of points head start.

Whitts can more than hold his own in a 442 vs 442 set up, its when we come up against 433 or 4231 that he (we) struggle because he doesn't have the time to find the pass, it becomes a battle and there are a lot of players better than him if it turns out to be a battle on sodden pitches.....

I don't think the winter months help him at all.
