' Cardiff City need to be ruthless to Malky Mackay to keep THAT gap growing: 7 things we learned at Huddersfield '

After their stalement and in the cold light of day, what can Cardiff City take away from the trip to West Yorkshire? Gareth Rogers takes a look.

Cardiff City had to earn their precious point at the John Smiths Stadium, despite having the chances to win the game and suffering at the hands of a major decision.

But, in the cold light of day, what can we take away from the trip to West Yorkshire?

Gareth Rogers takes a look.

The gap between Cardiff and the drop zone is growing
Little over a week ago, 22nd place Millwall were targeting Cardiff and within a six point striking distance with 16 games to play.

This week gap has widened to seven points with just 14 games to play.

A win at Wigan on Tuesday would mean only one team in the bottom three could realistically catch the Bluebirds.

A coffee machine would be a good investment for fans
Cardiff are certainly becoming harder to beat but as a result look a good bet for a draw each week.

As a result it’s becoming harder and harder for the producers of the Football League show to justify putting them anywhere near the start of the show.

Next Saturday it starts at 11.55pm so get your Maxwell House at the ready.

If Manga hadn’t gone away, the r word would never have been mentioned
During Bruno Manga’s African Cup of Nations sabbatical the Bluebirds were beaten by Norwich, Middlesbrough, Reading and Derby, conceding nine goals in the process.

The days of 3-0 half time deficits also seem to be gone
Between mid December and mid January there were three occasions when the Bluebirds conceded a trio of first half goals.

This month, Russell Slade’s men have grown a backbone and haven’t conceded a single first half goal and have given themselves a chance of picking up points.

Time to be ruthless and condemn Wigan and Malky
Malky Mackay looked a shadow of his once confident self after his team were hammered at home to Charlton.

If Cardiff beat them on Tuesday night if would take a miracle for Mackay to catch his former club.

This is no time for sympathy, Russell Slade has to condemn the once loved Bluebirds boss.

Can we get technology that adjudicates on control of the ball?
The most farcical incident involved Kenwyne Jones getting hacked down by defender Tommy Smith.

The fans screamed penalty but the referee correctly called it outside the box. He probably did Cardiff a favour though as their record playing against 10 this season is woeful.

Kadeem Harris could be the secret weapon at Wigan?
As the second half wore on both of Cardiff’s wingers tired and the attacking threat all but dried up.

Tricky Conor McAleny replaced the impressive Matt Kennedy but the game was crying out for the pace of Kadeem Harris.

In the same situation on Tuesday, the speedy 21-year-old must be utilised because he has a point to prove to Mr Mackay.

Good post ;)

If we can make ourselves hard to beat then we can build some decent attacking options going forward.

All I would like is to hope between now and the end of the season that next season we can move forward with stability and a belief that has been missing this year.
