Blaming Slade for the problems Tan has caused....

Sat Feb 21, 2015 5:46 pm

....is like cutting the weed rather than destroying the root.

Tan is the cause of the problems, not Slade. Slade is simply working now within his means and the environment in which he has been asked to work in. No big name manager will come into this current environment as even the likes of Malky Mackay, who was a nobody at Watford, wanted money to spend when he come here to mount a challenge.

Slade is simply here doing what he's expected to do. Blaming Slade for working within the conditions Tan has provided is absurd. A lot of you will call for Slade's head and if he is gotten rid of the result of that will be another manager coming in, finding out that Tan is extremely difficult to work under and he'll either leave via mutual consent after realising its not for him or he'll continue to plod along as required.

Tan is the problem. Not Slade. We can keep chopping and changing managers for the next 20 years but as long as Tan is around all we will continue to see is instability, managers who don't know whether they're coming or going, players becoming despondent or simply not joining us in the first instance and this will lead to a continuous downward spiral. If you want to get rid of the problem then get rid of the root cause, Vincent Tan.

To his credit VT has been quiet of late.

As concerns RS, he might help us avoid relegation, but his record actually caused this problem in the first place!

I struggle to see how RS fits into a Strategic Plan which has getting to the PL in it!

Maybe VT is looking to sell and he has a cheap stop gap manager in place to make it easier for the new owners - this is the only strategic logic I see for having him at the moment.

Tan is obviously at the root of the problem, as he chose Slade in the first place. However, Tan is not responsible for our tactics or playing people out of position.

No, but Tan is responsible for the mass exodus of players to cut down the wage budget and generate money whilst replacing these players with cheaper alternatives. That is a fact. Its like taking a Bosch chainsaw away from Slade and giving him a manual saw and expecting him to do the same job. People need to be more realistic with their expectations.

There's some good points made here. Slade has had a difficult job however he has not helped himself. When he took over had he managed properly we would be on edge of play offs and he would not have had to get rid of so many players.

Tan has messed up in appointing slade. Slade clearly has limited motivational skills and his coaching ability is poor. We need rid of slade asap. Get a good young manager in like Karl Robinson or Paul Tidsdale and they would get more out of the players and get us playing good football rather than hoofball.

I admire your optimism Gareth but I cant see us turning things around in the near future with that loon at the helm. Tan is obviously not doing this on purpose as it'd be financially stupid to do so, I'm sure we'll both agree on that, however I do believe now we're not doing things his way its going to be the extremely long and time consuming route of lingering in the lower divisions for several years before steadily building back up. Tan has taken what he can out and has stripped back on the wages (Slade hasn't done this - Tan signs off the paperwork - he's the MD and after the Malky fiasco its a damn certainty he overlooks everything now with a fine eye) and we will rebuild up. As much as it pains me to say, I believe that it'll be 20-30 years before we see this side hit the heights we've hit in recent years. Just like an unsustainable economy after a boom there's usually a bust and here's our bust.

Tan's money got us to the Premiership. He backed Mackay in the premiership with such notable signings as Cornelius and ludicrous wages and the other trouble we now know of.

He brought in Solskjaer to widespread acclaim and large wages and backed his choices. Even this season he backed him with poor but very expensive purchases. Only when it was clear we were heading the wrong way did he reduce the wage bill before we ended up like Portsmouth suffocated by expensive mediocre players. Personally I think that was right but even then his choice of manager was poor. You can succeed on modest budgets if you're a good coach. Look at Howe at Bournemouth, Warburton at Brentford.

We stabilise now but I fear Slade is the flaw to that plan. Now Tan needs to act quickly and maybe Trolloppe or even Adkins are the future. or dare I say it, Jones?!

Most clubs would envy the extent to which Tan backed his managers with money. His one mistake was the colour and he's even reversed that. Let down by his managers; all of them (even Jones failed) and their players failed him and indeed us.

Well said. Spot on. Unfortunately appointing Slade was a huge mistake.
