" I THINK WE ARE MOVING FORWARD "

Fri Feb 20, 2015 8:46 pm

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade challenged his players to maintain the standard set against Blackburn Rovers in midweek when they travel to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Speaking in his Friday morning press conference, the Gaffer said:“There’s still a lot of work to be done. I did see improvement [on Tuesday] though, that’s for sure.

"I think we are moving forward, but there’s a lot of work to be done. I still expect ups and downs, but you want that curve to go by and large in the right direction. That’s what we’re looking to achieve between now and the end of the season.

"It looked a bit more like one of my teams on Tuesday, as far as the way I want to play, so I was pleased from that perspective. But I still feel that there’s a lot to do.

“We have a few niggling injuries. Yesterday was the second day of recovery, so we’ll wait and see on Friday. I’m hoping that those who picked up knocks will come through for Saturday.”

Russell also cited the impact of a number of his new signings - particularly the impact they've had on a rejuvenated Group.

“In terms of those who have come in, Lee Peltier has been outstanding, for example,” he reflected. “Scott Malone has been improving with every performance - [First Team Coach] James Rowberry is doing a lot of one-on-one work with him. If he [Malone] improves the defensive side of his game, I think we’ve got an excellent player.

"Matty Kennedy is a little bit more of a project because of his age, but he gave a great performance for us on Tuesday night. It takes time for new players to settle in, but I do feel that some of them are embracing the challenge, enjoying their time already at Cardiff City, and are proving to be favourites with the fans.

“If we can chalk up a few more away wins it will be important. As I say, it’s about putting a few more bricks in place in terms of building confidence and moving forward. We need to demonstrate we are capable of doing that. We have not picked up enough points away from home.

“We still have a third of the season to go, and we want to pick up as many points as possible between now and then. I’m sure we can.”

Indeed Russel, indeed. But the players needs relaxing inviorement, space to build confidence. A system at challenge and take advantage of their qualities. The best players needs to be giving responibilities and freedom to create football to progress.
This isn't about taking it up a notch, but taking a step back. relax and enjoy ourself as a group and club. Creating a vibe, identity and expressing that on the field. It's been evident from day one of Ol Russel reign. To much work, to little play.

Wrong club, wrong century and wrong style Ol Russel :old:

Hard to say on 1 performance.

The Brighton match was the worst game I've ever seen Since following city.. Blackburn was a huge improvement I agree but maybe Blackburn were suffering a bit of an fa cup headache... Lets just come back down to earth and remember what we have been served.. Tomorrow will be a huge test to see if we have turned the corner...
