' Cardiff City head coach Paul Trollope set for bigger role at Bluebirds after impressive introduction '
Russell Slade has made it clear he will make the final decisions but Trollope is set to have a big say in Cardiff City's approach for the rest of the season
Russell Slade has revealed Cardiff City’s new head coach Paul Trollope will play a bigger role at the club between now and the end of this season.
The Bluebirds boss makes it clear he will make the final decisions, although he is determined to allow Trollope to exert his influence on his struggling squad.
Cardiff produced their best performance under Slade in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn on Tuesday night, just three days after Trollope joined the club.
The former Wales international could be seen directing operations from the touchline during a display that was a significant improvement on the dire spectacle of the previous match at Cardiff City Stadium against Brighton.

“Paul is learning about the players here and what they have or don’t have to offer,” said Slade.
“I set out what we needed in terms of team shape and other factors against Blackburn, while he was involved in only a couple of training sessions before we played.
“The longer he is here the bigger say he will have because that’s what it’s all about.
“I am delighted he has joined us.”
Slade and Trollope spent three hours talking before the ex-Bristol Rovers manager agreed to join the coaching staff in Cardiff.
Speaking about his influence against Blackburn, Slade said: “Yes, Trolls was vocal on the side. That’s what I asked for. We talked and he asked whether I wanted that.
“I told him yes. I do. Two sets of eyes are better than one and we also have Scott (Young) and Marge (Martyn Margetson) with us. We all work together and that’s exactly how I want it and we all want it.
“The dynamics are far better that way.”
Meanwhile, Conor McAleny is back in the City squad for Saturday’s Championship match at Huddersfield, who are one point ahead of the Bluebirds.
The 22-year-old failed a lunchtime fitness test on a hamstring before Cardiff’s 1-1 draw against Blackburn.
“Conor is back in the squad,” said Slade. “He had a tight abductor muscle last weekend, but that was okay. Then he fired a ball in training and felt a hamstring. It was nothing major, but we didn’t want to risk him against Blackburn.
“Matty Kennedy stepped in and did well. It was useful that he started on the right and linked with Lee Peltier. If he did make a mistake on his Championship debut, which he didn’t, Matty had good support.
Brazilian full-back Fabio, also on the way back from injury, is rated 50/50 to be available at Huddersfield.

I could argue that it was maybe a coincidence, but most of us know that a change was needed. This move appears to gd effective and instant. Let's hoping can be sustained. RS is, at best for me, a stop-gap. He's a proper feller but not the calibre to take things forward.

I saw Paul Trollope at Bristol Rovers when I was living there - he did ok but got the bullet in the end I think, though his best period was working under Lennie Lawrence as his DoF.
Trolls strength is coach not manager - he is young mind, so perhaps he's learnt from is experience at the Gas.
Glad to see a proper coach in the dugout.

so I don't think for one minute he's ready to be a Championship manager - perhaps he'll do well with Slade taking a more strategic role and being the front man.
Don't really care so long as we carry on playing like we did Tuesday, much, much better even if Nooney threw it away for us at the end
