or were the moronic Chelsea fans a more isolated incident that is not a true reflection on modern society.
I have been trying to get my head around why we are reading about more cases of racism during recent times. I know it has always been around but I am not sure if it is on the increase, or if it is being more widely reported than previously in an attempt to try and kick it out altogether.
I have been trying to work out why some people think the way they do, and have made a few observations while watching and listening to other people. I recently visited a hospital casualty department, and a screen on the wall said the expected waiting time was 4 hours. I would estimate that 75% of the people waiting to be seen were from other countries and were speaking a wide variety of different languages. I overheard a discussion where someone said the reason they were having to wait was because the place was "infested with immigrants" even though this person would probably be treated for whatever she had by a doctor who was not of British origin.
I hear regularly of people complaining that there are not enough jobs around, and that in many areas priority is given to people arriving here from EU countries rather than being given to existing local people. I also read regularly that these EU migrants are accepting jobs that have been vacant for a long time, and that local people are not prepared to apply for due to the type of work involved.
I have been told by a close friend that he believes our open borders are directly contributing to overcrowded public transport, blocked roads, and motorways blocked by traffic accidents by people who do not hold a valid British driving licence. I should think most of these accidents involve drivers who do possess a UK licence, but it is peoples perceptions of events that may be the problem.
Hardly a day goes by where we don't read about some atrocity committed by IS, and I hear about people who are now nervous about flying if they spot a lady wearing a burka on the same flight, even though in all probability she is as disgusted and worried about IS in the same way as most of the civilised world.
I think in a lot of cases racism is down to ignorance and people reading and hearing about events and tarring everyone with the same brush. Perhaps it is fear that drives these people to behave in this fashion, and they end up directing their anger at completely the wrong people.
This is just my opinion on , and I'm sure there are many more deeper and complicated issues behind this subject. Would be interesting to hear other views, particularly as it often seems to be associated with football. Is racism on the increase, and if so what is causing this?

In my opinion racism seems like its on the increase, because every little thing is now classed as racist. Minorities and the PC brigade have become overly sensitive towards every little thing. Its become to easy to catagrise everything as racism. I'm not condoning racism- when its real racism. those Chelsea fans were just pissed up idiots who were out to give anyone agro that wasn't part of their group. I'm willing to bet if a white ginger boy tried to get on that train, he would have got similar treatment

With regards to football I think racism is a lot less prevalent than previously - in Britain anyway. You must remember the many incidents regarding chants & bananas etc. from years back? Chelsea were amongst the worse but I think this is mostly an isolated incident of a few idiots.
In the general public I believe it's on the increase for many of the reasons you mentioned.

It is the buzz topic for the media at the moment due to the problems in the Middle East. Racism has always been around and probably always will be which is really depressing. However, I think there is more awareness of it now as well so even though it might be decreasing, awareness of it and disgust of it has now made incidents more in the interest of the public.
No excuse for racism. What's the point in hating to that extent? You must have a really f*cking diabolical life if you have the mentality and time to hate people of a different ethnicity or culture.

The problem is this political correctness and mock outrage culture has led to some not even caring what they're labelled. When you start throwing around terms for everything and anything, their true meaning becomes watered down, diluted, until those words have very little meaning anymore. I've seen online on other forums people calling others racist and the person being called a racist just saying so what? you call everyone that these days so i don't care.
Its bonkers.
