WE STILL NEED A LEADER AND LETTING HUDSON GO WAS A MASSIVE MISTAKE,BUT TAN WANTED ANYTHING TO DO WITH MALKY GONE,HUDSON HAD BECOME CLOSE WITH MALKY.

MARK HUDSON SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN GIVEN AWAY

Thursday 19th Feb 2015

His Cardiff City departure never courted the controversy that of John Toshack’s did, anger the fans in the manner of the sudden loss of Rob Earnshaw or Danny Gabbidon, nor have supporters questioning the size of the fee as was the case with Aaron Ramsey.

But Bluebirds followers will be hoping the loss of Premier League promotion-winning squad skipper Mark Hudson doesn’t come back to bite the team this weekend.

Hudson never wanted to leave south Wales and the Bluebirds have learned to regret their decision to let him join Huddersfield Town.

This Saturday, at the John Smith’s Stadium, Hudson will skipper Huddersfield out against his former club in what is a crucial match for the two teams.

He is captain at the Yorkshire club, just as he was at Charlton, Crystal Palace and Cardiff City.

Cardiff City players fans were sad to see him leave

And while manager Russell Slade’s team badly need leaders, men who can gather team-mates around them and help the club drive forward, they will see the figurehead who could have done that for them this season lining up instead in the colours of the opposition.

Hudson is an ideal man in that leadership role. Cardiff should have kept him and it’s difficult to fathom exactly why they let him to move on for a ‘nominal fee’ last September.

He isn’t the best centre-half in Championship football, but Hudson is a tough, uncompromising defender who was popular in and around the Bluebirds with team-mates, staff and fans.

The 32-year-old left South Wales after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer paid a reported £10m for Sean Morrison and Bruno Manga. His departure ended a five-year association with the club.

Hudson achieved cult status with fans after Cardiff swept into the Premier League and says: “I will never forget that. I still can’t put the pride and joy into words and I will think about it always.”

Hudson, though, was told City didn’t need him any more just three days before the transfer window closed.

:ayatollah: He moved on to Huddersfield, saying: “I’m sad to leave Cardiff. . I have great memories. :ayatollah:

“Over the previous summer I had been told my future was at Cardiff, I was captain and that was the way it would be. Then, the day before we played Fulham, I was informed I wasn’t needed and had to find another club.

“It was hard in a way because clubs who had expressed an interest in me through the summer had been sent away and told I wasn’t for sale.

“But I also half expected it, I wasn’t so surprised. You don’t spend £10m on two central defenders for nothing so I suspected it.”

The fact is that he has gone and this weekend Hudson and goalkeeper David Marshall, big pals during their time playing together, will lead their respective teams out.

It will make a change from the many, many times they were first and second in line during the Bluebirds’ better days.

A massive mistake by The City.

Not sure about the VT/close to Malky bit, as we still have players here now from Malkys tenure, Marshal & Whittingham & Gunnarsson spring to mind.

I think it was more a case of OGS wanting to get rid, & look how many of his own (OGS) players have now left, not to mention the few who have hardly played this season.

When he left I wasn't too worried because I didn't think he was Premier League standard, and that we had better players here. I can see now that although we may have had more gifted players, we didn't have a natural leader like Hudson, and I think his work rate and the ability he had as a leader would have rubbed off on our other players. It is obvious now that we are crying out for a player like Hudson to steady the ship, and looking back on it, the club made a huge mistake letting him go.

Rick
I was chatting to Ole, and he said to me all I can say is Hudson and some of the others were out of my hands.
Hudson behind the scenes was close to Malky and was like his Capt in the camp.

That's interesting Annis. The VT- Malky vendetta that prevailed to the point of self harm to our club, & ultimate destruction,,,both on & off the field.

Rick, Tans obsessed with hurting Malky and it has become beyond, hurting us at the same time. Just read a chapter on Malky by Craig Bellamy and Bellamy is straight to the point,I will put it on here in the next few days :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Sorry to take this off topic but is Craig's book worth getting? I've just finished my latest book and looking for a new one.

My take is that if we were going to get rid of Huds then we needed to ensure we brought in a player with the same leadership qualities to replace him. Appears that we havn't done that.

I think it was the right decision .

He was an ageing player who was replaced by two younger, hungrier and better centre backs .

The mistake wasn't letting him leave the mistake was/is the managers not replacing his leadership with a strong character in the middle of the park and making a goalkeeper captain .

Yes Def worth getting,I have really enjoyed it :thumbright: :thumbright:

A very good point. Will always have time and respect for Hudson after the way he turned his form around in the face of heavy criticism and became such a leader for us. He wasn't the most technically gifted centre back around but what he lacked in natural ability he made up for by contributing to the team effort with leadership, organisational, and motivational skills.

A very good point. Huds was getting Pelters at one point but battled on regardless and proved his worth.

Ive seen lots of threads on and say the same, I fully agree it was the right time to move him on, his injuries over the last few years havent helped us. Im not even sure a leader is what we need, we need better players and a manager who can manage. We have Manga and Conolly and Morrison who are all of a better age, at the time we had Cala as well.

I do think he would have brought in bettter as his replacement mind, im still unsure on Morrison still.

I agree with this - old players go all the time, the mistake was not having a strong character here and for that I blame OGS; he should have ensured we had a proper captain and leader, if not 2, in the squad.

Bellamy's book is a good read. He talks about the professionalism of Gary Speed and the influence he had on the players, like Hudson did with us. He talks about Elano and Robinho doing their own thing at Man City and disrupting things, just like Tan. Bellamy's book highlights the importance of the Gary Speed's and Mark Hudson's keeping players like Elano and Robinho in check while being the managers right hand man in getting the team united together off the pitch, so everyone is pulling in the same direction on the pitch.

Why not make Peltier captain? :thumbright:

Re: " WE STILL NEED ONE AND WHAT A MASSIVE MISTAKE "

Huddersfield are next to us in the league and in respects to the defences they have let in 9 more goals than us and kept fewer clean sheets.

That is also with us not having a settled team due to two managers this season.

As a leader Mark is missed but I think we have replaced him easily on the playing front for a Championship campaign.

Sorry I don't agree at all . Hudson had his best season and games when he was not captain and his days are close to over too I don't think he is the answer at all we need a leader a new leader a good young leader

I thought it was a run of the mill book, nothing special. I felt he came across as a very self centred person, not someone you'd want your daughter to bring home
