Newport could profit from Cardiff City

NEWPORT County AFC could continue to profit from a link with neighbours Cardiff City, writes Michael Pearlman.

Wednesday 18th Feb 2015

The Argus understands that the signing of left-sided utility player David Tutonda might not be the end of trading between the two south Wales clubs with County still looking to make a promotion push this term.

The 19-year old born in DR Congo made an impressive start to life with the Exiles in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Wycombe and he might soon be joined by another prospect from the capital.

It is understood that new County director Kevin Morris was the driving force behind Tutonda’s signing and his relationship with Cardiff assistant Scott Young – formerly County assistant manager to Peter Beadle – has been key.

County’s caretaker boss Dack is set for a face-to-face meeting with Young later this week or early next, with goodwill on both sides in terms of the Championship club recognising Newport represent a great option for younger players in need of experience.

“I was delighted with David’s performance I must say, he’s another good young player who has come out of Cardiff and we are doing well with that,” he said.

“That link is beneficial and we are doing well by it; firstly I’d like to thank Cardiff for letting us have him.

“These boys come to a point when they need to play senior football and for some of these guys it’s perhaps too big a gulf to be playing Championship football.

“But it’s mutually beneficial, they are doing us a favour in terms of letting us have the players and we will do them a favour by sending back better footballers.

“If we can get one or two out there, we will do.

“David is here for another three weeks and if he continues to play as he started, we might look to extend something further.”

Dack has revealed County have “some bumps and bruises,” ahead of Saturday’s clash with Morecambe, but is expecting everyone to be available apart from long-term absentee Andrew Hughes.

“We’ve got some niggles, but nothing we would expect to keep anyone out of the game,” he said.

Striker Chris Zebroski, last season’s top scorer at Rodney Parade, is back in contention, with Dack confirming he’d been missing with personal problems having sat out the last two games.

The link should be continued. Perfect to keep an eye on them when they're playing just down the road, and for the players to settle quickly as they won't have to move!

About time too.
Should have done this years ago.
The clubs should have been working together on all sorts of things for years.

Might be a bit late if we are both in the same division next season !

Strange this. I wonder how County fans square this when a lot of them hate us. I am sure most City fans have nothing against them or their club.

I think it's a good thing. Maybe I'm too young to remember any hostilities but being from the 'Port, I hope they do well.
