Bluebirds boss Russell Slade says his new right-hand man Trollope is well respected as a coach and his presence enhances the whole club

Russell Slade has revealed it was his own decision to add ex-Wales international Paul Trollope to Cardiff city’s coaching staff.

Former Bristol Rovers manager Trollope, who has also coached at Championship and Premier League level, took his first Bluebirds training session on Sunday.

He will work alongside manager Slade and assistant Scott Young.

“It was my decision to bring Trolls in,” said Slade. “I’ve known him a long time, we’ve had many battles with each other.

“I’ve come across Paul since he’s been in Championship and Premier League with Norwich. He is well respected as a coach, our chemistry as a group is enhanced with his presence.”

Trollope, who played for Derby County, was previously first-team coach at Birmingham City and Norwich City, working alongside Chris Hughton.

During five years as manager of Bristol Rovers he guided the club to promotion to League One in 2007.

Swindon-born Trollope, who won nine caps for Wales, has been added to the first team coaching staff, while Kevin Nicholson has been appointed Cardiff under-21. He will continue with his first team matchday duties, while coaching the cluib’s younger players through the week.

He was a guest in the chairman’s suite for Cardiff City’s 0-0 home draw against Brighton

“Paul’s first training session was on Sunday,” said Slade. “We have restructured, Kevin has gone to the under-21 team and Trolls adds experience.

“His main area is coaching and he will work closely with James Rowberry.

“It’s not an extra voice because Kevin Nicholson taken over the under-21 team.

Chemistry of group, his experience to help with training and knowing the level are important factors to me.

“His arrival, his presence moves us forward, makes us better and stronger.

We need a lift at the moment and the quicker we get win quicker we look forward to games coming up.”

Bringing in Trollope is the only positive thing Slade has done since he's been here. I don't think he's knows how to coach attacking football so maybe we'll see some more positive performances on the pitch.

Yes fair enough appoint Trollope and he may improve the coaching.
Yes fair enough as RS says EXPERIENCE AND KNOWING THE LEVEL is important.

BUT it begs the question why did we appoint someone (RS) who didn't 'know the level'.
AND if Trollope is coaching the first team (with another guy) what are we paying RS for?

All seems odd to me. (But not as odd as why he firstly didnt play Daehli and subsequently sold him! - totally bizarre.)

Only fair he should be able to have his own coaching staff.

As much as it is looking not good for Slade I just believe that if the worse happens and we go down then the club should have most of the responsibility as they have not given Slade his own tools to do the job.

I still think Tan is the problem, not Slade. Blaming Slade is like blaming the weed and not the root. The problem will just grow back.

Manager Russell Slade has appointed former Norwich and Birmingham coach Paul Trollope to the position of head coach at the club.

He joined our backroom staff the other day following the recent restructuring that has gone on at the club.

Speaking to the BBC the manager confirmed that Trollope was his appointment, and wasn't 'forced' on him from above.

The former Welsh international has plenty of experience, and was involved in his first training session on Sunday ahead of the game against Blackburn.

'His arrival and presence moves us forward and makes us better and stronger. I've known him a long time and we've had many battles with each other football wise.'

Trollope was also Bristol Rovers manager for five years, and helped them to League One promotion back in 2007, but has recently been working alongside now Brighton gaffer Chris Hughton.

'I've come across Paul since he's been in the Championship and Premier League with Norwich. He is a well respected coach and our chemistry as a group is enhanced with his presence. His experience will help with training and knowing the level are important factors to me.'

Slade also revealed that player/coach Danny Gabbidon could make the move to Chicago Fire before the end of the season as well, as he was involved in a friendly for them against Queens Park Rangers last week.

'They're interested in his services going forward. I'm not sure how that's going to work. It could be a possibility for him if that's the road he decides to go down. It'll be a big decision for him.'

The MLS season begins in March and the 35 year old 'could' make the move then.
