' VOUCHER EXCHANGES, RV's and TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS '

Sun Feb 15, 2015 9:49 am

Ian Holloway came out in defence of Millwall fans yesterday and criticised the measures put in place by police.

Millwall fans had to travel to Wooley Edge services which is some 15 miles from Elland Road for a voucher exchange.

As a Cardiff fan and a travel group organiser I fully support managers who come out in defence of the fans like this, no doubt we will have to do the same thing when we go to Leeds in April.

As Holloway asks ' Can't they police a Saturday game ?'

Bubbles, voucher exchanges and RV's are restrictions on fans that I now feel are unnecessary, years ago hooliganism was rife in football but clubs like ours in particular have cleaned its act and should be treated with the respect that those who travel on coaches to away games give by their continued good behaviour.

What really winds me up and it has happened on a couple of occasions this season, those who travel on organised coaches have faced RV's and some form of travel restriction ( btw we cannot drink within 10 miles of any ground when travelling on coaches) yet fans who choose to travel by train or car face no restrictions whatsoever and can drink and socialise in City Centres.

Why can't any of us who travel by coach be treated with the same respect ?

Holloway's article on the BBC website :

Millwall manager Ian Holloway wants 'respect' for fans from police

Millwall manager Ian Holloway
Championship side Millwall remain in the relegation zone after defeat against Leeds
Ian Holloway criticised West Yorkshire Police's continued ticket restrictions on Millwall supporters after his side's Championship defeat at Leeds.

The fans were forced to exchange vouchers for tickets at Woolley Edge services 15 miles from Elland Road.

"Can't they police a Saturday match? We should be shown the utmost respect like everybody else," said Holloway.

"If I thought they (our fans) were a risk I wouldn't be saying all this. I am proud of them."

Millwall fans had to collect their tickets from Woolley Edge service (A) before making their way to Elland Road (B)
Only 200 Millwall fans made the trip to West Yorkshire, who had to report to the service station on the M1 motorway, as they collected their match tickets on the way to the ground.

Holloway feels disrespected by the police force, with his side remaining in the relegation zone after a 1-0 loss.

"I don't understand. Are we so much worse? We are only treated like that by West Yorkshire Police. Why should they treat us any differently from everybody else?

"After all, the game has moved on and so has supporters' behaviour, so what is the issue?"

There still a bad hooligan element at Leeds hell bent on trouble they havnt forgotten what happened at ninian park and still harp on about it but leeds forget what they did to us in the 1974 fa cup tie .leeds and millwall hate each other with a vengeance and it want take much for it to kick off that's why Certain clubs that go to leeds get these travel restrictions put on them but what beggars belief they don't put any on leeds

Not even for Swansea Cardiff?

I went last year and admitted it ruined the day (that and the result) spent hours and hour messing about. But don't you think it would be mayhem if we could go up on the trains?

I believe if Leeds game ends up being a voucher exchange then our Club should refuse to accept any match tickets and make a stand until that decision gets overturned and there are no travel restrictions imposed. MILLWALL AWAY is no restrictions so that should be the same for Leeds away.We have put up with bubbles and voucher exchanges for long enough now!
