SLADE/WHITTINGHAM/GUNNARSON

Sun Feb 15, 2015 8:43 am

A lof of people including myself have lost patience with slade.

But in fairness some of his signings have been good and i think peltier malone o keefe mcaleny and doyle can be good players for us.
Also we seem to be better defensively the last two games which is good and positive moving forward.

But for me the massive problem as i have said before is mainly whittingham in the team because we may aswell have 10 men playing because he is just a passenger and way passed it now imo also same really goes for gunnarson.

Our midfield is a massive problem and if slade can drop these two then we might see a change in fortunes. But this is doubtful and if he dosent change them then this shows he just aint got a clue and needs to go. To be honest fact he hasent dropped them shows he hasent got a clue already but just throwing this out there for debate..

I totally agree with all you say but why have the last four managers kept him on the team sheet obviously they know more than the likes of you or me but I am at a complete loss.

Yes Malky dropped Whitts when our promotion run started faulting and hey presto it worked

It certainly did, Whitts goes missing far to many times.

I've been saying for years that you cannot player Whittingham in the centre of a four man midfield. He just doesn't offer enough as an attacking threat or defensively and let's face it if you can't cover all the bases in those two simple components of being a central midfield player you shouldn't be in the team.

It seems like whitts doesn't love the game.
he'll go through spells where he wants to be everywhere he was dangerous and scoring.
then he sits back

Think alot of it is confidence and positions they've played. But everyone who under performs deserves to get dropped imo

Yes Malky dropped Whittingham during the tail end of our promotion season and it worked a treat, we even started to play some good football with Mutch and Kim in combo. But then, apart from other mistakes, Malky blotted his copybook by playinh Whittingham in the Premiership where he was like a duck out of water and it failed spectacularly! Premier quality he most certainly is not, and, although he has some skillfull touches with the ball, I believe he has now dropped to under average Championship level st best. Im not tsking it away from the man, who I have personally met and id extremely likeable, but there is no room for sentimentality any more. He once was a very good Championship player and I remember times when I would be disappointef if he wasnt in the team, but as time goes on inevitably things change. To give you an example, Maradona was the best player I've ever seen in my life, but do you think I'd want him playing for City now, no!

Don't let the truth get in the way of your argument. We won 4 out of the last 15

I think most are in agreement that one if not both need to be dropped. Gunnar started the season well and looked fitter than ever, Witts has been a shadow of himself this season. Both have been loyal servants but they need to be dropped, they look totally lost. I genuinely believe these two need a fresh challenge and they would benefit from a change of club, they aren't bad players for sure, maybe just being dropped for a while would see a change. :bluescarf:

It never worked !!!!!!!!!! Show the stats for that season......

It quite evident that Whitts & Gunnar both can't play in Slade 442 though....

I agree with you there....

Its a spiral, he has a poor game, our wank fans single him out, he has a poorer game, singled out and so on.......

Always starts the season well and fades.

He didn't start this season well nor last though, did he? As I say time catches up with everyone. Some our wank fans would have the poor bugger playing when hes 62!

Did he not score as many goals as KJ by December ?

Re: SLADE/WHITTINGHAM/GUNNARSON

sadly I agree whits needs to be dropped, He can be a great player in the championship he can pass and score also great at corners and free kicks but when his form dips his whole game goes and this is the worst I have seen him play recently.

I say sadly as I like the guy and has scored some the best goals iv seen down the City but every season he needs to be dropped and everytime he comes back better so hopefully it will happen again he will come back better but he does need to be dropped

Im not sure to be honest but he is a midfielder, not a striker so any goals from him, however welcome, could only be considered a bonus. It has no regard upon his overall poor play which has directly contributed to our poor midfield performance as a unit. I would sacrifice his goals and "assists" for a more dominating, visionary performance with pace any day and not being so anonymous.

Re: SLADE/WHITTINGHAM/GUNNARSON

I believe we should drop Whitts...... Our "game plan" doesn't suit his strengths except the delivery of a set piece.

My only concern is none of his replacements can pass the ball, we are in a scrap so hoofing up field may be the requirement.

Gunnarson however can be easily replaced as we a couple of destructive midfielders.

The last 7 games Whitts started we lost 3 (Brighton, Peterborough and Middlesborough) and drew 2. He was then dropped and we went on to stuff Blackburn and Forest 3-0 and never lost another game albeit most were drawn which by that time was all we had to do. We all remember how much improved we were without Whitts playing but you choose not to, that's you prerogative but let's not let the truth get in the way shall we

Agree with everything you just said !

Whittingham is always the topic back on the way home

He brings nothing to the team anymore

Much rather Doyle in there and playing off jones

But what do I know I haven't been to uni to study sport

Just drop whitts and bring him back after a few weeks rest,no shame in that.Agree with the poster who says whittingham is nearly always the main talking point after a match, unfortunately His last couple of poor seasons may damage his legacy at Cardiff city
When was the last time gunnarsson played well? man city?

Just drop him and sell him off. Lets bring our youngsters in and give them a chance. Gunnarsson is useful as a motivator.

Who will line up alongside them on Tuesday?

Re: SLADE/WHITTINGHAM/GUNNARSON

Both played well yesterday, 442 vs 442 though

Some class passes from Whitts, but he must do that to earn his keep

Gunnar battled and it was the best he has played for a good while.

10 mins is very hard to judge but Adeyemi ran around a lot and didn't do that much.
