Seven former Bluebirds could come back to haunt Cardiff City manager Russell Slade in the next 12 days.

Troubled Slade knows the next three games will be closely scrutinised by owner Vincent Tan and he’s under pressure to engineer an improvement soon.

But as fate would have it, the Bluebirds take on seven former employees in the next three matches, men with more than 20 years’ experience with the Welsh club between them.

Craig Conway and Rudy Gestede are in Blackburn’s squad for Tuesday’s crunch clash at Cardiff City Stadium, while Mark Hudson will be captain and centre-half for Huddersfield when Slade takes his team to Yorkshire on Saturday, February 21.

Then, at relegated-haunted Wigan on February 24, the City manager will go toe-to-toe with Malky Mackay, the man who realised the club’s Premier League dream.

Cardiff have earned only one win and seven points from a possible 33 over their last 11 Championship fixtures and it’s clear February’s results are crucial if Slade is to stay in the job.

Russell Slade is having a tough time at Cardiff City
His side have slumped into the bottom half of the Championship table, and fans have already expressed their discontent at Slade’s management and the style of football being adopted under him.

They are without a fixture on Saturday when, if results go against them, they could finish the day only three points ahead of the relegation zone.

Failure against Blackburn and Huddersfield would surely stretch owner Tan’s patience to the limit – and defeat against Mackay’s Wigan, who are deep in trouble near the foot of the table, would be disastrous.

Cardiff City v Blackburn Rovers
(Cardiff City Stadium, Tuesday, February 17, 7.45pm)
Craig Conway: Hard-working winger who has scored four goals and provided 12 assists in 18 matches for Rovers since his £100,000 move from Cardiff. His strike during Blackburn’s 2-1 win against Rotherham in midweek is a goal-of-the-season contender. Spent two-and-a-half years with the Bluebirds, scoring seven goals in 65 appearances.

Rudy Gestede: French centre-forward signed by Mackay after a spell on trial. Fired nine goals in 60 appearances for City during a two-and-a-half year stay. Has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season and was linked to a January transfer window move to Crystal Palace.

Huddersfield Town v Cardiff City
(John Smith’s Stadium, Saturday, February 21, 3pm)
Mark Hudson: Captain of Palace, Charlton and Cardiff before making the move to Huddersfield. Now wears the armband for the Terriers, a leader manager Russell Slade would surely love to have in his team right now. Hudson scored 11 goals in 165 matches for Cardiff in a four-and-a-half year stay.

Wigan Athletic v Cardiff City
(DW Stadium, Tuesday, February 24, 7.45pm)
Malky Mackay: The man who led Cardiff into the Premier League. Sacked by owner Vincent Tan midway through that season in the top flight. Mackay’s men have earned only one win in 14 matches since he took charge, lost 3-0 against Forest in midweek and are second from bottom, eight points from safety, in the table. He was in charge for 125 Cardiff matches during two-and-a-half years, winning 54, drawing 37 and losing 34.

Andrew Taylor: Left-back Taylor played in 114 matches over three years with Cardiff before moving on to Wigan. Now he’s in a Latics team waging a battle against relegation.

Kim Bo-Kyung: Reached agreement with Cardiff on his contract and left the club by mutual consent. The Bluebirds paid £2.5m for South Korean international Kim in 2012 when he signed a three=year contract. Kim scored three goals in 64 appearances for City.

Don Cowie: The Scottish international left Cardiff last summer after three years with the club. He scored nine goals in 99 first-team appearances for the Bluebirds, but has yet to open his account in 24 games at Wigan.

What about Barnet at Wigan as well. Massive for us at the end of the promotion season

Conway will be dangerous against us as he has a high work rate. Plus we invite teams onto us and Conway takes full advantage of that with shots from outside the edge of the box.

Rudy has had a great time up at Blackburn too. I don't see us getting much from this game. They will have far more possession than us again as we know but are much better in front of goal than Brighton.
