A forum for all things Cardiff City

Cardiff City player and defensive coach Danny Gabbidon played for the Chicago Fire in today’s 1-0 preseason win against Queens Park Rangers in London.
Gabbidon is currently under contract with Cardiff until the end of the season in a player/coach role but that didn’t stop him from getting some first-team action under his belt with the Chicago squad in their second preseason outing in England.
Head coach Frank Yallop watched his squad draw 0-0 with Norwich City last week and today’s 1-0 victory against QPR is another positive step as the Eastern Conference side prepare for the new MLS campaign that gets underway in less than a month.
Gabbidon played the entire second-half against QPR at the Premier League club’s training ground and the experienced Welsh centre-back helped the Fire to a valuable clean-sheet.
“I’ve known Danny and been in contact with him for a long time,” Frank Yallop told MLSGB after today’s game. “He’s a nice kid. He’s toward the end of his career but he’s very fit and very experienced.
“I thought it would be nice to get a look at him here and see how he gets on. It’s just an option for having him back. He’s still under contract but Cardiff allowed him to come down and train.”
Gabbidon has only seen one minute of league action for Cardiff in the Championship this season after returning to the club he played for from 2000-2005.
With his current deal set to expire in the summer he could be an option for the Chicago Fire at the midpoint of the 2015 season but that remains to be seen.

To make way for Paul Trollope?

Makes no difference. He's not a coach, and doesn't play so makes perfect sense to let him go.

Another one if those abnomolies at our club

What on earth was the point of signing him in the first place, as we were overloaded with centre backs and got rid of a leader in Mark Hudson and then made Gabbs a coach who has zilch experience

don't Know whether to laugh or cry at the goings on at our club

He wasn't the only one but Gabbidon had a dreadful game against Bournemouth in the Capital cup. His playing days at championship level are way in the past. He doesn't have the tempo to be a coach. Too quiet.

To be honest, I'd forgotten he was here. Best of luck to him, but let him go.

There is seriously no point in him being here.
