Paul Trollope: Ex-Bristol Rovers boss lined up for Cardiff role
Cardiff City could add former Wales midfielder Paul Trollope to their coaching staff.
The club are keen to strengthen the coaching staff of manager Russell Slade, as he bids to stave off a Championship relegation fight.
Trollope was previously first-team coach at Birmingham City and Norwich City, working alongside Chris Hughton.
During five years as manager of Bristol Rovers he guided the club to promotion to League One in 2007.
Swindon-born Trollope, who won nine caps for Wales between 1997 and 2003, was a guest in the Chairman's Suite for Cardiff City's 0-0 home draw with Brighton on Tuesday night.
Cardiff sources say an appointment is imminent, and Trollope, whose coaching skills are highly regarded in the game, is the favourite to land the role.

Cardiff City get help for Russell Slade by targeting ex Wales star as his new Bluebirds coach

Paul Trollope, former assistant to Chris Hughton at Norwich and ex Bristol Rovers manager, being lined up to help stave off Cardiff City relegation fears
Former Wales international Paul Trollope is set to join Russell Slade’s Cardiff City backroom team.
The Bluebirds strongly believe Slade’s coaching set-up needs to be bolstered as they seek to turn around a desperate run of results and Trollope has been identified as the best man for the job.
Trollope, who won nine Wales caps between 1997-2003, was a guest in the chairman’s suite for goalless draw against Brighton this week.
He has Championship experience at Birmingham and Norwich, where he was Chris Hughton’s assistant.
The Bluebirds are keen to bring in a coach with know-how at second-tier level to help the current backroom staff.
Trollope would be asked to get heavily involved in training and tactics as Cardiff, who have earned only seven points from the last 33 on offer, battle to ease away from relegation worries.
Cardiff have whittled potential candidates down to one main man and sources at the club say that individual is Trollope.
Chairman Mehmet Dalman and Slade have held talks about bringing in a new coach. It has been clear since before Slade took over that Cardiff lack high level football experience at boardroom level and around the first team.
A new coach of the right calibre would work closely with Slade and current assistant boss Scott Young. An appointment could be made within the new few days - and before Cardiff’s next match against Blackburn on Tuesday.
Trollope is a 42-year-old former Derby, Fulham and Crystal Palace player, who became Bristol Rovers player-manager.
He guided Rovers to promotion to League One in 2006-07, but Trollope left the club during December 2010 when they were in a relegation battle.
Trollope has since worked with Hughton as first team coach at Birmingham and Norwich, but is not currently with a club.
He made his Wales debut under Bobby Gould against Scotland in 1997. His last cap was in 2003 during the 4-0 thumping at home to Azerbaijan at the Millennium Stadium.

Won't look good on Slade if we see an immediate improvement in the football.

Oh no not him he's no cop

Yet again we're gambling with Trollope instead of appointing a seasoned, proven, experienced coach, will we never learn ! I hope it works out ok, but we never seem to learn from previous collossal mistakes, but then again this is Cardiff City and not a proper organised well run club.

Pointless getting in any more coaches until Slade is replaced.
Thu Feb 12, 2015 1:56 pm
That's 3 trollopes we have got now-slade, young, and Trollope!!!!!
Thu Feb 12, 2015 2:25 pm
Slade will not listen to any coaches as he is stuck in his own little world, and his hoof ball tactics will not change. Get rid of Slade and bring in a decent manager with championship experience, and then he can bring in his own coaches!!

Well that doesn't exactly send my heart racing. Someone else who has limited experience outside the bottom two divisions, although he has spent a little bit of time assisting at Norwich & Birmingham. Whether he can make any difference remains to be seen, and will Slade & Young actually pay any attention to any suggestions he may make. I don't think the club needs someone to help Slade & Young, I think the club needs to get rid of them, and soon.

No doubt will be able to report back, on the current bad state we are in, players views etc, another nail in Slades managerial coffin........

I agree keep us up and get a new manager in

A new Coach is going to play the way the Manager wants him to...No Change. Any explanation of tactics that do not involve lumping it up field will just not be to Slade's liking.
A pointless acquisition unless they are going to change the way they play and with Slade in charge that is not going to happen.
Does not make sense at all, maybe they will make him the fall guy when it still goes tits up therefore taking the pressure of Tan's man.

The ideal opportunity has just presented itself. FFS Cardiff City just please do the right thing for once, get shot of Slade, Young and don't sign Trollope. A fine manager with integrity Paul Lambert has just become available, go get him. He is definitely the right man to take us forward rather than backwards.

I would welcome this.
Word is that Slade does very little or no coaching at all & Young has no respect from the players and has no coaching qualities at all, he's just a bellower!
Our players need something to pick them up, it's highly unlikely that Tan is going to get rid of Slade now he's just brought his own players in.
A new voice with new ideas might be just what we need to get us those extra few wins to get beyond 50 points

Our new caretaker manager has just entered the building.
