Probably the most overdue sacking in the country Villa have gone downhill since Martin O'Neil left them.

Aston Villa sack Paul Lambert and face handing the Scot a massive TEN MILLION QUID pay-off

New four-year contract controversially handed to the manager last September had NO compensation clause, meaning payment in full if ended early

Aston Villa face having to hand Paul Lambert a staggering compensation package of up to £10million after sacking him.

Villa pulled the trigger on Lambert on Wednesday night, despite the Scot only signing a new four-year deal in September worth nearly £3m a year.

And the Midlands club, who slipped into the Premier League's bottom three on Tuesday with defeat in a six-pointer at Hull, are in line to pay 45-year-old Lambert an astonishing pay-out.

MirrorSport understands his original deal, after joining in June 2012 from Norwich, was worth well over £2m.

It did not include a compensation clause, which meant payment in full if ended early.

His new deal, which included a pay-rise after he stayed loyal when owner Randy Lerner put the club up for sale last year, is believed to be structured the same way.

he's an excellent manager, but he's had a poor season and the penalties for failure especially in light of the massive new TV deal mean there is no room to give a manager a proper chance any more.

its a cut throat business though, absolutely no room for sentiment or room for excuses. villa have a structural problem that they are starved of funds and that will follow them around whoever they appoint. its a desperate last ditch attempt by the club to ensure PL survival. we'll see at the end of the season whether it was the right decision or not i suppose.

Amazed he didn't get fired 2 years ago if I'm honest.
