My Good Lady and City

Well, well, well, where on earth do I start?

I could go back to the beginning......December 1975, I'm 6 it's my first game and my cousin is playing.......for Cardiff City, not a huge crowd, cigarette smoke fills the air, football isn't the best but Cardiff City play some decent football and we win 5-2

I'M HOOKED! I live in Newport and I'll spend the rest of my adolescent life either having scuffles or being chased through John Frost Square.......ironically only ever getting caught once.....outside Blake's!!! Yep Nathan's own Newport bar!

Fast Forward to 1992......Cardiff City are still poor, probably even more so but MY Cardiif City are worth travelling a 10,000 mile return trip over 4 days from Belize to watch them draw 3-3 with York City.....my memory mildly affected by GWS may not serve me right but I think we were 3 up at half time........anyway it was worth it, I loved it and everything about it!

Take you on a few more years and there seemed a sudden influx of City players moving into the Rhiwderin/Bassaleg area with the likes of Jeff Eckardt, Carl Dale and John Hallworth living locally......attracting most of the rest of the squad on the weekend for a few parties.......you'd be surprised how far Carl Dale can kick a plant pot when he's had a few! Great days.......really, really great days......I knew the players, and I could relate to them!

Over those years I had a season ticket on and off but towards the end of Jeff Eckardts career a few of us that used to get comps decided enough was enough, we went every week and Jeff was becoming unreliable......translate to Jeff not starting so struggled with the comps! ;) It was season ticket time and it felt good!!

Ever since then and to date I have had a season ticket through good times and in all honesty not so many bad (possibly with the exception of the Cambridge result 7-2!! Although I even enjoyed the we want 5.....6......7 and eight moments!). We've had promotions including the Millennium Final, FA and League cup finals and even reached the promised land. I have actually loved every minute of being a City fan..........even last season.........to an extent!

BUT it's changed, it's so irreversably changed! I have a season ticket but I am finding it harder and harder to attend games, it's not necessarily the standard as I THINK I've witnessed worse......not 100% mind!?! It's the nature of the way we play, we have no plan A, certainly not one that's clear, and without doubt no plan B. Whilst we all have our opinions on Mr Tan, and he did put Slade in place, without doubt the person for me who is clearly to blame is Russell Slade. The football is unrecognisable from the last decade, the attitude is non existant and the style..........I'll leave that to you.....suffice to say George at Asda has more than us currently.

I actually never went tonight......I could have as I'm in Haverfordwest tonight (travelling from Bristol) but I let my Mrs take her son (he already has a season ticket with me) and her daughter............THEY HATED IT MR TAN!! My good lady loves football and goes to games whenever she can (even as a West Ham fan) but she has actually said she wont be going back there while Slade is running the show. Odd thing is she and the kids are from Bristol, converts via my passion, but what is going to happen if come May we go down and BCFC go up......hmmm that would save them the bridge toll and boredom to pop down the road......I will still cross the bridge but I'm sorry to say after 20 years with a season ticket that's it for me......pick and choose my games from the end of this year......I feel like I've just spilt up with my long term lover and may call her for a quick shag every now and then but we have nothing in common anymore and she has certainly let herself go so why prolong the inevitable?!?! She has to change her habits..........only a new mind can do that and it isn't Slade's!

Good night, god bless Bluebirds........stay safe!
