' Cardiff City boss Russell Slade finally admits promotion is 'unrealistic' after miserable draw with Brighton '
However, the Bluebirds manager believes that his side has too much quality to be dragged into a relegation battle and can finish in the top half
After a dire goalless draw with Brighton, Cardiff City boss Russell Slade finally cast doubt over whether his side were capable of going on a run to take them to the Championship play-off places.
The Bluebirds are now a massive 16 points off the top-six places and only six off the relegation places leading Slade to finally conclude that a return to the Premier League for his side this season is now ‘unrealistic.’ But he dismissed talk of the Bluebirds being dragged into dog-fight at the bottom of the table too.
The encounter with will not live long in the memory as both sides struggled to create many real goal-scoring opportunities.
“My initial reaction is of disappointment. It’s a disappointed changing room,” admitted Slade.
“We both cancelled each other out in the first-period and we tried to do something about that to show some intent. We had a couple of decent chances, one goal looked like it might decide it. It was important we kept a clean-sheet, we did that, but the game was far from a classic.
“I would not say the play-offs are gain, but it is looking unrealistic, isn’t it? If we are being honest. We need to put some real consolidated run together to get us up there.
"It’s not impossible, it can happen, teams have done it before, but at the minute we don’t look like we are capable of doing that despite the clean-sheet here. We need to be picking up wins not draws.
“I’m not wary of being dragged into a relegation fight. We have enough ability and collective togetherness, character and desire to look upwards and to get us up to the top half of the table.
“I’m not saying you can’t get dragged into it, but that is not my mind-set and I don’t believe that is the players’ mind-set either. That’s all I’m saying,”
Cardiff were again booed from the pitch as they failed to shine against Chris Hughton’s Albion who are themselves hovering just outside the bottom three places. Slade said he understood supporters frustrations, but urged patience too.
“I understand some of it,” added Slade.
“But I have to say one of our best moves was when the ball went back to Sean Morrison, it was booed and then we pit it wide and we created one of our better chances of the game. Some of that is accepted, fans are always entitled to their opinion. Sometimes we all need a bit of patience when we are playing. We can’t throw the ball forward all the time.”

Slade is a joke hasn't got a clue what he's doing !

Slade needs to get his head out of the sand (or out of his own arse) because he needs to realise that we are right in the middle of a relegation battle.
Pretending it's not happening seems to be Russell's way of making it go away.
With almost every utterance the man is proving that he is completely out of his depth.

Patience has gone. He's had more than enough opportunity. He is not the right man for this job. Newport position is available and would be better suited to him...
Like it or not we are now in a relegation battle. Mid table is a realistic target but not with the current manager. Look at the form table. Stats do not lie. We are in big trouble and its getting worse... .

Surely Tan can see Slade embarrassing his club ??

Slade is a deluded waffles. Along with Young and the coaching staff he is completely out of his depth. All far too inexperienced for top half championship football and none of them should have ever been appointed to their present positions at Cardiff City.

He must be watching a different game each week! What are the decent chances he is talking about? Does he mean the 40 yard Gunnar shot ( the first and only shot on target in the 49th minute)which trickled up to the goalie? He is having a

What a joke, 39% possession against one of the weaker teams in the division. After only 2 minutes Scott Malone was telling Morrison to pass back to Marshall from the half way line when he was facing the Brighton goal.- Unbelievable. What is the point is looking for a new 1st team coach to work under the idiot Slade. I am getting bored of repeating the same thing week in week out. Slade just stands on the touchline with his arms folded with no emotion whatsoever. I was not a fan of Malky but at least he showed passion and commitment. What do football club chairman do when results are poor- SACK THE MANAGER, LET'S DO IT!!!

A bit surprised, actually. I was expecting a repetition of that "when I took over, we were placed 17th" (being 16th is better, isn´t it).

Too much quality with a manager who has no idea how to use this quality will get us into a relegation battle. And after last nights shower of shit performance i would like to where this quality is hiding. Only Manga showed any real quality last night, the rest was shocking

You can't have too much quality to be dragged into a relegation battle, the majority of clubs have all felt this but in the end they've all got relegated. A bad manager can get any team with quality players relegated. A good manager with average players can maintain that team's survival.
