Cardiff City player ratings v Brighton: The best and the worst of Russell Slade's men

Football correspondent Steve Tucker rates the players as Cardiff City slump to just two points in their last five games

Cardiff City drew 0-0 with Brighton at the Cardiff City stadium, making it just one win in their last 11 league games.

The Seagulls sit below Cardiff in the Championship table and neither side could create any chance of note during the first half.

The Bluebirds failed to work David Stockdale in the Brighton goal until well into the second half, and they failed to do so again, having just one shot on target all game.

Our man Steve Tucker was in the stand at the Cardiff City Stadium and here's how he rated the players.

ARON GUNNARSSON (Star Man)
At least you know from the Icelander you are going to get a bit of passion and that is what we got. Had a couple of chances going forward, as well. 6

DAVID MARSHALL
Back in the side following his injury, the Cardiff ‘keeper was forced into very little action. He tipped over a Teixeria free-kick at one point and that was it in a very dull game. 5

LEE PELTIER
Plenty of endeavour from the full-back once more. A heart on the sleeve kind of guy that Cardiff fans love. He coped okay here although the pressure was not too intense. 5

SEAN MORRISON
The centre-half has had much tougher nights than this as he looked comfortable in defence. Got forward and had a header and that stood out on a night when little was happening up front for the Bluebirds. 5

BRUNO MANGA
He was the pick of the Cardiff defenders early in the season and he is settling back into it in reasonable fashion now. Another player not tested too much, but he stayed strong throughout. 6

SCOTT MALONE
Again, not an outstanding showing from the full-back but he stuck to his task. Part of a Bluebirds defence who faced an unambitious assault from their visitors. 4

STUART O’KEEFE
Taken off at half-time and his contribution when on the pitch was minimal. It is hard to work out just what he has been brought into the side to do. 4

CRAIG NOONE
Plenty of running from the wideman and some moments of skill but still nowhere near enough. He has not brought much to the side of late, not the levels of threat he used to. 6

PETER WHITTINGHAM
A couple of set-pieces that came to nothing but then we seem to always say that. Pushed in a more advanced role, he looked lost, to be honest. 4

CONOR McALENY
After a good debut, here the new man had little impact at all. Playing out wide in the first half did not really utilise his talents and Cardiff will be hoping for more from him than this going forward. 5

KENWYNE JONES
Has been in red-hot scoring form recently but never really got a sniff of goal this time around. One header in the first-half was about it but he saw little service all night. 5

Subs
Eoin Doyle (for O’Keefe 46)

Kadeem Harris (for McAleny 68).

Subs not used: Moore, Fabio, Connolly, Adeyemi, Revell.

Brighton
Stockdale, Calderon, Dunk, Greer, Bennett, Ince, Kayal (Lualua 71), Bruno, Teixeira (Stephens 85), Forster-Caskey, Best (O’Grady 63).

Unused: Walton, Hughes, Mackail-Smith, Halford.

Yellow cards:
Cardiff: O’Keefe 37, Peltier 90.

Brighton: Calderon 68, Bruno 86.

Attendance: 19,206.

Referee: Ian Williamson (Berkshire).

Marshall - 4 - Very little to do, should have caught an effort in the 2nd half but tipped the ball over the bar with 2 kicks. Kicking woeful

Peltier - 6 - decent game, solid defensively but doesn't offer much going forward

Manga - 6 - knicked the ball a few times and kept the ball well

Morrison - 6 - solid in the air, not troubled too much

Malone - 4 - gets caught too narrow too often, distribution poor and 1 big mistake which we got away with

Noone - 5 - tried to make things happen buts lost his spark, no end product

Whitts - 4 - had small spells during the game where he was involved but went missing, hit the first man too often from set pieces

Gunnarson - 5 - started well but thought he became sloppy, missed our best chance

O'Keefe - 4 - looked lost

McAleny - 5 - struggled to get into the game and when he started to look slightly threatening got took off

Jones - 6 - my MOTM - won near enough every header, excellent defensively, maybe should have done better with a header at goal but I was the wrong side of the Canton to really tell

Doyle - 6 - should have started, chased everything, showed some neat touches with his back to goal but had hardly anything to feed off

Harris - 5 - looked lively but made the wrong choice by either holding onto the ball too long or turning into players

Manga was easily our best player.

Noone was the second best down to pure effort.

And kenwyne did okay when he had a chance.

We will continue to shit as long as have gunnar and whittingham as our central midfield.

Manga the only respectable performance

Whitts gunnar and Noone again very very poor

If we take whitts passing away he has little to offer, had a poor game and needs to sit out this hit and hope period

gunnar - just a free kick machine nowadays, how he avoided a yellow is beyond me, can't say his passing has gone, it has never been there.

Noone - absolutely no end product, as all season. Greedy little bugger, may beat the first man, but you know he is running into the next man. His crosses are not even guesses any more, he never even lifts his head......My theory about Noone is he wants out ASAP all season.....thus the me me me stuff

Malone & harris are league 1 at best (may be there next year)
Doyle is everything we want a trier, but the game passed him by.
Peltier has a bit about him, but he is limited- Give me Kev any day

McAlaney - Not sure why everyone is raving about him, he did nothing in the 90min.....Emperors new clothes, he is from Everton so must be good
