' Swansea City and Cardiff City made more money than Bayern Munich, Atletico and PSG from TV '

In Spain at the moment there's a lot of soul searching going on regarding how football clubs in the country share out their TV rights. It's felt that Real Madrid and Barcelona receive far more than their fair share of money each year and it's a continual process which makes the country's football gradually unfairer. It's not often that Cardiff City are mentioned in the Spanish press but on Tuesday the Diario AS newspaper made a point singling out the Welsh club to show how poorly Spanish sides are paid in comparison.

Last season Cardiff City got the lowest TV money in the Premier League but still earned €74.5m according to AS. The main comparison they make is that Atletico Madrid, won won the Spanish league last season, received just €42m. The Premier League brings in more money from TV rights as a whole but Spain's situation is magnified by how it's weighted toward the traditional big two. Real Madrid and Barcelona both received €140m.

Swansea City were just in the bottom half of monies received by Premier League clubs but they still got €89m, and that's more than any club in Italy apart from Juventus, all clubs in Germany and all clubs in France. Cardiff themselves made more than Bayern Munich (€36.9), Borussia Dortmund (€35.5m) and PSG (€44.6m).

TV money is only one source of income and the big clubs of Europe will have outstripped the Welsh pair overall, but it shows how important the Premier League TV money is.

Probably the last time we ever get a mention in terms of raking in TV cash .
