' WHAT IS SUCCESS ? '

Mon Feb 09, 2015 6:32 pm

Even the most optimistic City fan would probably agree that promotion or even landing a place in the play-offs is highly unlikely now though not mathematically impossible.

Relegation is more likely than a promotion push though I don't think we will be relegated.

So with the changes in management and the turnaround of players, what would you consider to be a successful finish to this season going forward from where we stand today ?

I would not consider avoiding relegation to be a success even though we are in a ' period of transition '.

Personally for me, a top ten finish would be a 'success' if you look at the table right now, there is just four points between ourselves and ninth position but ten points to the eighth spot.

So a top ten finish is what I would like to see.

I think winning just one more game this season would be a success Carl.

Don't know where it will come from to be honest.

Success this season would be a top ten finish, and being back in blue. :bluescarf:

Being back in blue alone is a success :bluescarf:

Hi Carl

Would definitely agree 10 top would be a result, plus some momentum to take us into next season.

C'mon the City :)

Finishing the season strong Carl would be a a success so we can build for next season

Top ten is ambitious at this point I'd take anything above 17th,our inability to close a game off will keep dragging us further into the shit

Hi Carl. I agree that top 10 is a realistic target which preserves pride and gives the club something you build on. It's hard to accept that the play offs are not within grasping distance but equally, avoiding the drop zone is an achievement, given the upheaval.

Being in BLUE is kinda cool too. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

If we stay up il be happy and hopefully we can build more in the summer and make a push next year with a hardworking team. Hopefully the wounds of the last few years will continue to heal and we can start having more fun!

Getting to 50 points
We used to celebrate it back under Lennie with the odd chant of "we are staying up, say we are .............."
Could be just like ole times :bluescarf:

To me it will be how we come out of this mess this season.

If we go down its a disaster.

If we stay up but look vunerable for next season it is a disaster.

If we stay up and have stabled ourselves that is a success.

If we look like we could be going for it next season that will be a surprise.

If we go up this season I will give in watching football.

Start winning a few games showing real promising talent on the pitch... And avoiding relegation would be a success for me!

I'd be happy with 4th from bottom personally.
The reason being that Slade may then be told to trot on & we can bring in a more progressive manager with his own back room staff & a better style of play.

Success would have been finishing 17th or above last season and preserving Premier League status and kicking on for this season but unfortunately due to many football and non football related incidents and decisions relegation came , managers went and now not even a decent attempt at promotion looks on the cards . Back in August for me success would have been a top 2 finish playing some decent attacking football and scoring a shed full of goals , well on paper our squad looked the business didn't it ?

Now several months later and over 10 points off the play offs and only 7 or 8 from the bottom 3 then I'd say a mid table finish with all things considered would be a successful season as Slade as more or less admitted promotion is out of reach and he also says that the current squad is good enough to stay up .

My question back would be what should we call next season as successful ??

Maybe getting the blue shirts back and a new badge under the current regime is also seen to be a major success ??

Short term: Staying in the Championship
Long term: Tan Out

Most importantly this year the club regained its identity, that could arguably considered a huge success, for the good of the club going forward that is more important than being in a playoff spot at this point, possibly more important than getting promotion?
On the pitch, success would now be a mid table finish, things change quickly in football and especially in this league, should we lose to Brighton tonight then all the talk tomorrow will be of relegation, should we win, then all the talk will be that we are too good to go down

Success for me would see the club having a direction, a manager building something with a philosphy and players pulling in the same direction. I think we are some way off this sadly.

With the current set up staying up will be seen as a success and thats not because of the manager its despite the manager.

Success is winning 14 out of 17 games and making play-offs then winning the final!

Acceptable is losing in the play-offs.

Improvement is what Carl says.
