" New coaching set up at Cardiff City "

Mon Feb 09, 2015 5:25 pm

Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to announce that Kevin Nicholson has been appointed as U21s Manager.

Kevin will retain first-team match-day duties as part of Russell Slade’s backroom staff, though will now oversee all facets of the Club’s U21/DVP setup with the support of Lead Professional Development Phase Coach, Nilton Terroso.

One of the first FA Elite Coaches in Great Britain, Kevin graduated with the FA Elite Coaches Award earlier in his career as one of the World’s top 16 young coaches. A holder of the UEFA ‘A’ Licence qualification, he was selected by the LMA to be part of its Leadership Education Programme.

Prior to becoming Cardiff City U18s Manager in 2013, Kevin enjoyed successful spells with Derby County, Stoke City and Exeter City. He has been instrumental in the development of a number of young players who now play regularly in the Barclays Premier League and Sky Bet Championship – a key factor, along with his exemplary track record, in the decision to appoint him in this critical role.

Cardiff City Football Club has a rich history of bringing young talent through to play at the highest level. It is believed that Kevin’s appointment will help us continue that tradition, giving our current crop of youngsters – and those joining us in the future – the very best opportunity of flourishing.

As part of the restructure, Quinton Fortune has left his position as Professional Development Phase Coach. We'd like to thank Quinton for his contribution and wish him the very best for his future.

Is slade making room for a new person to join first team set up?

the coaching set up should remain the same whichever manager is in place. do you think clubs with long term strategies chop and change the coaching set up whenever a new manager is appointed? of course not, its a complete waste of money paying off incompetent staff who only got their job on personal connections with the incumbent manager.

You need to get a few good coaches in first, then keep them..........
