Hi fellow Cardiff fans. This is my first post and something I have been longing to communicate with my CCFC supporters for a while.
Next season we will have an altogether new CCFC badge. I would assume that would be with Vincent Tan at the helm. My fear is because of this, whatever design is given to us could incite a new period of unrest for the club and fans. I desperately don't want that and I know I won't be alone. So much so I have taken it upon myself to attempt a design which could serve CCFC going into a positive future. I have no idea if this badge will be liked or not as I haven't shown it to anyone before. I am not a designer and so it might look a little amateurish to some possibly. But it's the ideas really that I wanted to put forward.
To reasons and meanings behind the design...
Much of the concept has been taken from the successful Bluebirds Unite campaign. We might have returned to blue but I think we still need to carry that message forward going into the future. Our club is a divided one and has been for a long long time. It's time something was done to change this. As Darwin discovered, all things in nature that cannot adapt will die. CCFC is in dire need of adaptation and we need a positive change of culture and a united stance among everyone who is in love with the club. The past is no good to us. Whatever our gripes are and whomever they are with, they need to be left in the past. The future is all that matters.
"Identitiy" has been a key word for us in recent years. For me, identity also means individuality. Which is why I have designed a badge which doesn't look like that of other football clubs. No coat of arms. No copies of other emblems. No beer mat. On this badge design there are different tones of bluebirds. This represents bluebird fans of all sexes, ages and races. If you are blue you are blue. This is all that matters. They are all flying upward, together, united. Also the triangle formation is a nod to war tactics, sport tactics and the triangle being the strongest shape.
The Welsh Dragon has always been on our kit. I was happy to put it into the design. I would not want to see "Fire & Passion" on there though. Not because I am against this moto that much, but because it simply isn't needed. If the moto were used at the stadium I wouldn't mind at all. But when it comes to the emblem, the image of the dragon already says "Fire & Passion". Words are not needed. The best designs are the simplest ones. Anything that can be stripped away should be. The word is ergonomic I believe.
Absence of white. For me white is the colour of England, Leeds and caravan land. I have used St David's gold instead, which was of course prominent on the original Riverside FC kit and of course many many CCFC kits over the years. Also no other big club in the UK has blue and yellow as it's primary colours. Identity is individuality.
Here's where I risking losing support and angering some (which I really really do not want to do intentionally)... But I must speak my mind when it comes to the 'old badge'. The badge that some folks want to see return, which I get the impression from the return to blue statement is not going to happen anyway, was our emblem from 1985 - 2003. Then for four more seasons for 2008. A total of 22 seasons. A small portion of our history. As a peice of design, I hate to say, I think it isn't good (sorry!!). For me it is not worth fighting for, that is of course if someone comes up with a better design which I'm not claiming that I have done.
I want to see Cardiff City flying upward to a positive future and build on the good things that have been achievement like the multiple 'family club of the year' accolades. I want Cardiff City to be a club that managers would kill to manage, that players would love to play for and most of all that fans flock to see.
Bluebirds Unite.
