A forum for all things Cardiff City

My mate Joff is staying tonight in the Hilton Hotel in Sheffield, before tomorrows City game,he chatted this afternoon with McCarthy.
Mick McCarthy is staying there with the Ipswich team for tomorrows game at Rotherham.
Mick McCarthy wanted the Cardiff job and could not believe Cardiff did not come back with an offer of an interview, He said he would of taken the job hands down as Cardiff are a big club, much bigger than Ipswich.
He said he has had plenty of experience with the Championship, promotions etc
He felt for Slade as a lot of the current squad, many which were shipped out were against Slade's philosophy and no respect for Slade and does also understand Cardiff needed to reduce the wage bill as I have had to do the same at Ipswich.
Also said its a tough division and wished us well

I think McCarthy would do a fine job at Cardiff. Knows the division like the back of his hand, knows what is needed to be successful and is everything Slade isn't.
Can't see him working with Tan but the fact that he seems to have expressed an interest in the job means perhaps he could have.
If he realised that Tan just wanted a mindless puppet though I guess he would have run a mile.
Shame.

David, Joff was shocked of highly McCarthy thought of Cardiff City and McCarthy was stunned City did not want to even interview him.

I like Mccarthy ,would definetly have him here. Hates the media nearly as much as Kenny dalglish

Would have been ideal.

Annis,
It is amazing that they wouldn't even consider McCarthy and just goes to show, yet again I'm afraid, how little the current regime know about football.
Their level of ignorance and incompetence in dealing with footballing matters is being shown up time and time again. It really makes you wonder how they are so successful in running their other businesses!

Sadly David, Mick McCarthy is not the only good manager theyve ignored and thats part of the reason why we are in the mess we are currently in.

Has a proven record in getting promotions to the PL.
Him and Lennon would have been at the top of my list, people used to success, and a no bullshit style of communicating.

McCarthy is not someone I would have thought of to be honest when we were managerless but even after reading about his comments I still wouldn't want him.
Fri Feb 06, 2015 6:35 pm
I'd take mick Mccarthy all day long much better than Slade and ole put together we have taken useless inexperienced managers over proven managers and got what I expected out of it Tans advisors should be shot maybe his mother could tell him what manager to have next she seems to have more sense than the lot of the Tan clown room

Don't get me wrong, if the chouce was between McCarthy or Slade, I would have gone for Mick but I still don't like the guy.

not sure i'd agree ipswich are a much bigger club than us.
their last 3 home attendances have been 19k, 20k and 26k, not too dissimilar to ours. mick is a top championship manager but the club have made their choice, and no manager should be arrogant enough to be shocked he wasn't interviewed.
they are 4th and 17 points ahead of us, not sure what the gap was at the time, but i certainly wouldn't leave a relatively stable club for a difficult job like CCFC with fans that are impatient and demand results despite the fact we have an owner that is slashing the budget.

No comparison. McCarthy is in a different league from Slade. He did wonders with Ireland , Wolves and now Ipswich. Would have been a great appointment and I believe we would have been back in the Premiership with him on board & particularly the squad we had.

Joff does likel his hotels mind!! See you all tomorrow

Sure I remember McCarthy saying in an interview about who would want to work for Vincent Tan. Doubt he would have come here to be honest.

He said Cardiff are much bigger than Ipswich

Slade was a cheaper option
Fri Feb 06, 2015 11:05 pm
No way are Cardiff bigger than Ipswich
Fri Feb 06, 2015 11:23 pm
Would have been perfect for us, sadly Ran wanted the cheap option instead of a top class manager for this level - Mick McCarthy and Tony Pulis ignored, to name only two.

When I was a kid, Ipswich were one of the best sides in the country under Bobby Robson. They won the FA Cup in 78 and narrowly missed out on being League Champions a couple of times in the early 80's, plus they won the 81 UEFA Cup. They also won the League title under Alf Ramsey in 63. To say we're bigger than them is laughable to be honest, we might have more potential in terms of catchment area, but historically Ipswich have been way bigger than us.

I wonder whether Tan would be pleased now if say he had given Mcarthy the job, and we were top of the league, but still with the same finances we had at pre Slade.
Would Tan prefer to be top or would he prefer to have a better balance sheet ?

Maybe he'll become our new manager before the end of the season and save us from relegation?
If things get worse then I'm sure the owners will get rid sooner than later.

Always liked Mick, he really tells it as it is.
