Bo-Kyung – “I am very happy to be working with Malky Mackay again.”
Talented attacking midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung has signed for Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.
The 25 year-old underwent a medical at the DW Stadium earlier this week, agreed a contract until the end of the season and following a successful work-permit hearing, can now be officially confirmed as a Wigan Athletic player.

The deal is subject to international clearance and the completion of work permit formalities, and it is hoped he will be able to joins Latics’ squad for the weekend visit of Championship leaders AFC Bournemouth.

He will wear the number 16 shirt for Latics.

“I am very happy to be joining up with the gaffer again. I really enjoyed working with him in the past and he helped me so much in my career. He gave me the chance to fulfil my dream of playing in England and I am now looking forward so much to working with him again.

“Since becoming a free agent, we had various offers but when the chance came to be with the gaffer again at Wigan, this really was the only place I wanted to come.”

Bo-Kyung’s agent Yeung-Joong Lee said:

“When Kim Bo first joined Cardiff in 2012, Malky showed him so much warmth and understanding and helped him integrate into the British culture, on and off the field. This experience made the decision to come to Wigan now a very easy one.”

After meeting the Latics squad, Bo-Kyung said:

“The other players have all made me welcome already. The atmosphere in the dressing room seems very good, there is a nice feeling with all the lads and we now have to keep working hard to pick up as many points as we can and start climbing the league table.”

Bo-Kyung becomes Mackay’s eighth signing at Latics. The player capped 30 times by South Korea made his name in the J. League Division 1 side Cerezo Osaka, scoring 15 goals in 41 league games between 2010 and 2012.

In July 2012, Bo-Kyung joined Cardiff City for a reported £2.5million and went on to win promotion under Mackay at the Cardiff City Stadium. He scored three goals in 64 appearances for the Bluebirds, including late equaliser in 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester United in November 2013.

Kim's agent Lee Yeung-joong later insisted that the midfielder received no unfair treatment at the hands of Cardiff or Mackay, who Lee has again praised following the announcement of his client's move to the Championship club.

"When Kim Bo first joined Cardiff in 2012, Malky showed him so much warmth and understanding and helped him integrate into the British culture, on and off the field," Lee told Wigan's official website.
"This experience made the decision to come to Wigan now a very easy one."

Kim - released by Cardiff last month - added: "I am very happy to be joining up with the gaffer again. I really enjoyed working with him in the past and he helped me so much in my career.
"He gave me the chance to fulfil my dream of playing in England and I am now looking forward so much to working with him again.

"Since becoming a free agent, we had various offers but when the chance came to be with the gaffer again at Wigan, this really was the only place I wanted to come."

........so seems pretty conclusive!

Good Luck Kim Bo, except when we play you

Really rated him when you first came to us, hopefully you can do it again for Malky :thumbright:

Sort of dilutes Malky's reputation as a racist doesn't it :thumbright:

Tends to belie the Malky is a racist claim doesn't it?! In fact one could be forgiven for thinking that quite the opposite were true having read Kimbo's remarks. Good old Vincent and good old Slade.

Not really the type of statement you would expect from the "victim" of a serial racist is it?

Or maybe we are just starting to see another side to the story Tan gave us?

Good luck to both kimbo and MM. Our club was certainly better when they were both here.

I don't think Malky is a racist. I just think he hated Tan and used race as a way to get at him. I mean, what else could he use to belittle or get at Tan? It's childish and argumentative - worse than playground stuff really - but I don't believe Malky is a racist for one moment.

He'll be instrumental in our game up there.

Don't think malky is a racist, just a turd.
Had the chance to be amazing with us and wasted it.
He is as much to blame as Tan for the us being where we are.
Played many supporters for fools and they still does!!!!

What complete and utter nonsense. If Tan didn't interfere and allowed Malky to carry on with his job, we would probably still be in the Premiership. We had played all the top teams at home under Malky apart from Liverpool and Chelsea and I'm certain Malky would have picked up considerably more points than Ole in our remaining home games. Ole ripped apart what Malky built and has put us where we are now. The comments from Kim and Kim's agent makes Tan look very silly indeed.

I have to admit we probably would still be in the premiership if malky stayed it was Ole who ultimately took us down.

We were sunk......With or without malky.

Playing championship football in the premier league may get you to 16th or 17th the first season, but not the second.

Playing league 1 football in the championship will put you in league 1 though...

Don't agree with the Malky statement. What more could he have done? Beat the Jacks (the biggest game for us) beat city, drew with united and everton, and we played shit football but the team battled under Malky, unlike Ole, we had countless "must win" games under him, Swansea (lost 3-0), sunderland(lost 4-0), hull (lost 4-0), Newcastle (lost 3-0).

My opinion is Malky would have kept us up. Ole was a risk for Tan and it didn't come off. But I think if Tan stuck my Malky the first season, we would have stayed up, and we especially wouldn't have finished dead last!!

Im adament malky would have kept us in the premiership

Malky may have bought some duds but what manager hasn't? Even Sir Alex wasted £15 million on Zaha !!!

OK, the football wasn't the most attractive BUT surely the aim for the season was to stay in the Premiership and I still believe Malky would have managed to get more points from the remaining 20 games than Ole did and we would have stayed up!

I think Malky did some things he will regret and admit were possibly ill advised ( I believe he has admitted he was wrong ) and the only good to come out of the past 14 months is the return to blue.... :bluescarf:

I will always feel that our relegation was self-inflicted and sadly we have continued to contribute to our decline.

Kimbo is a good player and one that will make Wigan a bit stronger, the racism row is dying a death with situations like this taking place too.

Great signing for Wigan. Too good for us. Lightweight yes but he can open defences up like he did against Man City.

He wasn't given an opportunity here.He had a couple of games earlier in the season but you cannot expect someone to come into the team for a long long time and pull rabbits out if a hat. Another player let down with his time with us.

I'm glad Kimbo has come out with this.

This "Malky is a racist" bollocks is just that bollocks.

Tan used the racist card here and won a few wets over. What a load of bollocks it all was.

We were promoted to the premier league and needed a striker. Malky spent 10 mil on " one for the future" bought the best rb in the championship and played a cb or french kev instead, neither are better than brayford in my opinion. Yes malky won us some quality games and shouldve finished the job but he wasted a hell of a lot of money in his first prem season. If I was the owner, then I too would've questioned him. Good manager, but like I said, he let us down as much as Tan.

Why our loss, he wasn't exactly a first choice under Malky? He got progressively worse under 3 different managers, lost possession far too many times. Good luck to him though

Spot on, Kim bo was a great player for us, just wonder what has gone behind the scenes, lost confidence in the manager maybe ?
Also your right about the racist bit, set by Tan springs to mind, he did make a mistake no doubt about, but not a racist, still wish he was here.

Say what you want every single manager has critics, results are what matters and with malky we had the best results we'd seen and yes we were still in a decent position when he left with a good fighting chance of staying up
