' EOIN DOYLE '

Wed Feb 04, 2015 7:55 am

The highest bid Chesterfield had for Eoin Doyle was £450,000, until Cardiff came in for him with a deal that was £450k up front, another £400k after so many appearances and £200k if Cardiff City get promoted during the length of Doyke’s contract which is three and a half years.

Who is Eoin Doyle? All you need to know about Cardiff City's biggest deadline day signing

Wed 4th February 2015

By Simon Gaskell.

Doyle has a reputation as a prolific goalscorer but what else do we know about the Bluebirds recruit?

What’s his background?
Originally from Dublin, 26-year-old Doyle was a real hot property in Ireland from an early age.

He played internationally for the Republic of Ireland under-15s and started out as a youth at Irish club Shelbourne.

He made the breakthrough though at Shamrock Rovers and then Sligo Rovers. He made 119 league appearances for those two clubs and scored 34 times in the process. He won an Irish Cup medal with Sligo Rovers.

:ayatollah: What was his big break? :ayatollah:

You would have to say that came in December 2011 when Doyle signed for Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League.

Aberdeen and Ipswich were also apparently interested in signing him at the time.

He made his Hibs debut in their 3-1 defeat to Edinburgh rivals Hearts on January 2, 2012. During his time in Edinburgh Doyle scored some vital goals for Hibs including one in a 4-0 victory over Dunfermline which secured his side’s status on the Scottish top-flight.

He helped Hibs get to the Scottish Cup Final in 2013 where they lost in the end to Celtic. That proved to be his last game for Hibs.

:ayatollah: How has he done at Chesterfield? :ayatollah:

In May 2013 he moved to the Spireites with manager Paul Cook - who he worked with at Sligo Rovers - said to have been influential in his decision.

Doyle has been a big hit for Chesterfield, making 84 appearances and scoring 38 goals in the process.

It is Doyle’s form this season that will have caught the eye of Cardiff City boss Russell Slade. The striker has 25 goals in 33 games so far.

It is a red hot streak of form for which includes back-to-back hat-tricks. On September 14, Doyle netted three times as Chesterfield saw off Scunthorpe 4-1 then, three days later, he scored three times again in a 3-3 draw at Preston.

The Bluebirds will be hoping he brings that Midas touch in front of goal with him to the Championship.

:ayatollah: Was there competition for his signature? :ayatollah:
Apparently so. Sheffield United were locked in talks with Chesterfield about a move and were rumoured to have lodged one bid while League One high-fliers Preston North End and, more surprisingly, New York City were also interested.

However the apparent prospect of playing alongside the likes of David Villa and Frank Lampard still wasn't a strong enough lure and it was Cardiff who won the race for Doyle.

:ayatollah: What kind of player is he? :ayatollah:

Doyle's game is most based on his movement and ability to find space on the shoulders of defenders.

He is a clever player who thrives in the box and Cardiff City fans will be hoping the predatory play which has brought him to peoples' attention at League One also translates to Championship level.

Has he come to the attention of the Republic of Ireland?
The Dublin-born star has not been capped yet but is no doubt known to Martin O'Neill following his goal-scoring exploits this season.

Pressed on his international aspirations following his move to the Bluebirds, Doyle said: "I haven't thought that far ahead to be honest. Obviously it would be a dream for me to play for my country.

"If playing here for this great club gives me that opportunity, I will certainly be doing my best to make it happen."

looks a bargain
would like to know when the 400k kicks in
funny how its got the money bits in the thread and knows there is a promotion payment but cant say when the 400k kicks in
if its after 25 games or say 100 games makes a big difference to this story imo :bluescarf:

Looks impressive at lower levels so let's hope he can step up & do it with us, however, it's the midfield & supply route that would concern me at the moment.
Definitely worth a punt at the prices quoted though.

Could be the best of Slade's signings so far. He's obviously thinking 4-4-2 with him and Revell up front so he'll probably get games.

If players dont perform, then its up to a manager to sort them out,if they continue to not perform then they should be dropped simple :thumbright:

In all walks of life a manager is responsible for the people under him and to get the best out of them :thumbright: :thumbright:
