Kenwyne Jones will not leave as a result of Eoin Doyle's arrival

As Cardiff City prepare to sign striker Eoin Doyle , sources at the club insist he will not be a replacement for top-scorer Kenwyne Jones.

Doyle is travelling to the Welsh capital for a medical and to thrash out personal terms after the Bluebirds agreed a fee reportedly between £500,000 and £1m for the 26-year-old with Chesterfield.

With boss Russell Slade currently under orders from owner Vincent Tan to slash the club’s wage bill, the imminent arrival of Doyle has sparked speculation that Jones, one of the club’s highest earners, could be set to exit before the transfer window closes tonight at 11pm.

The club though insists that is not the case at all, with Doyle set to join Jones at the club rather a replacement.

The Bluebirds have also rubbished reports that they are set to terminate the contact of another striker at the club, Nicky Maynard. The out of favour marksman is currently injured and is contracted until the summer in the Welsh capital.

Sources say Maynard is not exiting the club today.

Looks like the "sources" were wrong about Maynard. Perhaps they are wrong about Jones too?
