Cardiff City are on the brink of signing Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle.

The Bluebirds are understood to have agreed a fee of around £750,000 plus add-ons, with the frontman on his way to Cardiff to undergo a medical.

The 26-year-old has scored an impressive 25 goals in 33 appearances for the League One outfit in all competitions this term.

If he completes his move to South Wales he will become boss Russell Slade's fifth signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Alex Revell, Scott Malone, Lee Peltier and Stuart O'Keefe.

The former Hibernian striker has also been linked with Sheffield United during the window but appears to have opted to join Cardiff.

We are supposed to be in talks with Eoin Doyle. Hope it's true! We spent get Luongo I'm afraid.

BBC Radio Sheffield's Andy Giddings: "Can confirm Cardiff City are now the front runners to sign #chesterfieldfc striker Eoin Doyle. Understand there is still interested at the table from other clubs so it remains a case of wait and see..."

I hope he does well for us - we need a goal-scoring mobile striker like Doyle.

If he only gets 50% of his League 1 scoring rate with us it will secure us mid table.

Not happy on the Chesterfield board. They were expecting more than £750k.

They posted this on official site

Chesterfield have agreed a deal with Cardiff City over the sale of striker Eoin Doyle for an undisclosed seven-figure fee.

Doyle, who scored his 25th goal of the season in Saturday's 2-2 draw at home to Doncaster Rovers, is now travelling to Wales for a medical.

Commenting on the impending transfer, Spireites chief executive Chris Turner said: "We have reached an agreement with Cardiff after negotiating a deal we feel is good business for the club.

16 in 19 games and only £750k, hats off to slade for pulling this off, if he continues this form into this division, then he'll prove to be a snip.

Le Fondre had good stats.

You cannot score without being given chances. How is this City team going to create enough chances eh?

Worst City team this century.

le fondre did have chances, he just fluffed them. not many, but chances that any decent striker at this level should put away. doyle has been scoring goals for the past few months so shouldn't have too many problems carrying on that form whilst there was a huge gap between le fondre scoring for reading and then starting for CCFC.

it is not the worst city team this century, you are just getting caught up in all the anti slade hype like so many on this forum. we have been much worse this century, we are playing very poorly at the moment, granted, but have a little perspective.

Played for Hibs. Was pretty average in truth, so this signing doesn't excite me at all. He does appear to have come on a bit so I'll see what he can do a few years down the line before I write him off.

Top scorer in all 4 divisions.

Le Fondre had quote a few clearcut chances which he cocked up. He missed a few absolute sitters. I welcome the signing of Doyle. Could be just what we need. Hope Nooney stays though.

I think that he will be a very good signing for us. He has got 25 goals this season, so he will be arriving with loads of confidence and hopefully some of his confidence will rub off on the rest of the team. We have to start with Jones and Doyle up front for our next game. They are both scoring goals and if we are going to stay in this division then we have to have the pair of them in from the start. Then I would play Harris just behind them with Adeyemi, O'Keefe and Ralls being our three central midfielders. With Adeyemi being our, high energy box to box midfielder who is full of running. Then our back four being - in my opinion - the best defence that we could possibly put out, with Peltier at right back, Fabio at left back, then Manga and Connolly as our Centre Halves. I think with that team and with our two strikers having a lot of confidence, there should be no reason for us not to at least match our next opponents. But, if we don't play with the 2 strikers - Doyle and Jones - who have loads of confidence and we play Whittingham, Gunnarsson and Morrison in the side. Then I cannot see anything changing with our recent performances and results. I like Gunnarsson as he does work his arse off but I just think he needs a break from the side. He offers so much more to the team than Whittingham. The other two should be nowhere near the starting 11 as they are both woeful at the moment, especially Morrison.

Bloooooobirds.

One of my best mates is a Chesterfield season ticket holder. Says the guy is class. Knows where the net is and runs all day. Plays off the last man's shoulder. Which would fit with our hoof ball. Knock it up middle to Kenwyn/revell, head on, doyle in.... Goal.

One of the factors in our poor possession figures is having strikers who don't close opposing defences down. Doyle and Revell will solve this.
Start giving the ball from keeper to full back, a bit more patience from players and fans with build up and a few less players who hide or play with their heads down, a couple who will fight like O'Keefe and Peltier and that side of the game should improve.

Long way to go but this looks like a step in the right direction
