Are some of us just getting old?

Sun Feb 01, 2015 6:45 pm

Following on from 'Stringfellow's' earlier post about people dating they've had enough, not renewing etc. is it just that one reaches a certain age and CCFC is not what it used to be in your life. I realise that the dross currently on show helps to sway even the most die hard away but are we just growing out of it all?

One war too many more like it.

I've seen us miss out in the 70s, drop like a stone in the 80,90s, climb in the 2000, get there not long ago and now it looks like we are dropping again.

It wears thin.

Have to agree with you completely.

I find now that I'm getting older I'm getting tired of a lot of things, and football is increasingly becoming one of them.

I'm actually in the middle of booking a holiday over the Easter break and it always had to fall between home games, now I don't care that I'm missing Bolton Wanderers at home and even if we were in the Prem I don't think I'd be that bothered about missing a game now. It's a typical habit though - it's difficult to cut free completely after being a regular season ticket holder since the late 70s.

Your never going to be too old.Once you get the bug, it never leaves you, I started going to matches in the 60's around the time of rising attendances on the back of England winning the World Cup. Family, work and lots of things get in the way, over the years, and you factor in the rise and fall of your team. You may not always attend but it was always the first result I looked out for on the teleprinter. Nowadays, away games are listened to online and home games are attended, it may change again! It is now a way of life and you always live in hope, right now like many on this forum it's going to take some major changes for my gang of 4 to renew, although we will still go to most games

fed up of being treated like we are not important......am i wrong in thinking that my £600 doesnt earn me as a paying customer some sort of respect.......it feels that we are expected to hand over our hard earned cash whatever tan and co seems fit to endorse on the paying customer..... :ayatollah:

Season tickets and the internet play a big part of this feeling of detachment.

I have had many "gaps seasons" when i didn't go down. Basically did the 80's then College, beer & women more appealing, started to play again. Came back for the Eddie May years, then gave up when I had kids and my wife didn't return to work. Returned fully fledged when we moved to the CCS in the family stand with my eldest daughter.

Only had a season ticket for 4 seasons, but somehow i wasn't just a visitor any more, joining this forum gave me a platform to vent my spleen.

In the past a shit performance may have resulted in me finding an excuse not to turn up a the turnstile with my £15. Now i will start a that it i am off thread

I think UK footballs bubble has finally started to burst and people are doing others things these days
