Alex Revell!

Sun Feb 01, 2015 12:50 am

Alex Revell has got to be the most uninspiring signing for a striker from Rotherham! What does he do more that what Kenwyne Jones can't do instead of running around like a headless chicken! The guy can't score goals so why the f**k have we got him for? I just don't know what Slade is thinking off here, we should be looking for foreigners on the cheap which could be gems not players from league 1ffs mun Russell Slade has to go!

Revell is the antithesis of Jones.

Revell works his balls off but rarely scores. Jones has that lazy style but crucially he knows how to find the net. I suppose Slade's idea was Revell's work rate would give Jones more space, and more chances.

I really rate REVELL. And me for one would take him over anyone with a can't be arsed attitude like we have had recently.
Give me players like him who run and care anyday.

Revell had a decent game. Won lots of ball , created chances and caused problems for them. Pity no one was close enough or quick enough to take advantage.
After being on the pitch 80 minutes to Jones' 10, he had to chase his own header because Jones was ambling back offside.
5 mins later he bust a gut to get in the box for a cross, flying past Jones who had a 10 yard start but couldn't be arsed.
What's happened to the days when City fans appreciated players who got stuck in ?

Slade has got this one right.

Persisting with Noone and Whittingham though is not working.

Your picking on the wrong player he gives 100 percent

Why not drop whitts or gunners for jones?

We all like players who graft but scoring goals wins matches and will help keep us up. Revell running around like a headless chicken and not scoring goals is no good to anyone. Jones is the club's top scorer and looks like scoring whereas Revell carries a far less threat. Jones has to start ahead of Revell and take him off after 60. Another shocker by Slade.

This ^^^^^ may work if he plays them together. To be honest Revell worked his nuts off and if noone and Harris and rest of midfield ran off him maybe something could of happened. Only thing I can think of was they were told to stay defensive coz we had no idea of how to attack or pressing

Revell is a powder puff striker. Runs all day but acheives nothing. Revell and Malone are two poor signings.

So you rather someone who runs their bollocks off and achieve nothing to our top scorer are you Slade best mate or something?

Very naive view.

There is more to being a striker than just scoring.
When Jones plays the opposition have free reign to build from the back. Revell stops that by putting pressure on the defenders and keeper and forcing them to go long.
He also links with other players better and doesn't spend half the game off side.
Jones has shown that he can only put any effort in over short spells and is a passenger after that.

He's more effective off the bench . However he should have been brought on earlier yesterday.

Absolute shit it should given that a pro footballer run his nut off and give %100 apart from running is nuts off he offers very little I don't think he would have scored yesterday if they didn't have a keeper

I really like Revel. He busts a gut and gives it everything. BUT he's actually not very good. Poor control, lack of awareness, doesn't hold the ball up that well, not the most intelligent runner, and poor finisher. Kenwyne might not run as much but he is a far superior player! Kenwyne doesn't just hold the ball up, and is a constant threat in the box but he's also our best defender from set pieces. For me it's inconceivable how anyone could pick Revel over Jones.

Agree & in addition ask Buxton & Keogh who they would rather play against?

Whittingham should have been supporting him in the role he played in yesterday . But did he ? No he didn't.

You can't blame him when he got no support.

Re: Alex Revell!

Sun Feb 01, 2015 5:17 pm

You can't blame Whittingham for everything! Whitts hardly got on the ball himself as our defence are obviously under orders to hit it long to Revel at every opportunity.

Revel is 31 and his career stats for a striker are rubbish. Can we not just accept he might actually not be very good? The guy slogs his guts out so ill always support him but Slade is mental if he thinks Revel ahead of Jones, a proven Premier League striker, and one of the top scorers in the Championship, is the way forward. Sometimes managers try to be too clever for their own good when the solution is starring them right in the face.

You'd take him over someone who can score goals?

The only thing headless chickens will get us is relegated.

Truth is we need a far better functioning midfield. The balance just isn't right and the players are very average, still seem unfit and lack guile and pace.

In the absence of those attributes in midfield Jones up front from set pieces has been our saving grace and we are not in a position to replace him with a non-goalscoring hard worker.

I'm not blaming whittingham for everything as he's not the only one not playing well ATM

The role he was playing yesterday he should be all over the place defending and also attacking he done none of them .

Who could of been In that position he was In yesterday ? Daehli or Morrison and where are they ? Long gone !

Chuck someone In there who's going to cause problems for the other team not their own team !

I agree with that, Whitts didn't look comfortable as a no.10. Morrison or Daehli were perfect for that role yet we let them go. Crazy!

Revel runs his bollocks off and gives everything. Unfortunately he's not a goal scorer and never has been. If he was paired up with a natural goal scorer then it could work but playing him as a lone striker without the poacher alongside him is a recipe for disaster imho.

Why he running around like a headless chicken ?

Because the midfield don't give him support and he's chasing lost causes

With one up front the midfield has to be pressing and closing down

We seem to give every team time time and more time . Hence why they always have more possession

We don't even shoot out side the box

Only got to watch the jacks game today one shot on goal and they won

Don't shoot don't score, simples !
