There are reports coming out of Italy that Cardiff City are still interested in signing Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi during this transfer window, which would be their second signing from Serie A in around a week. Recently it was announced that Inter Milan youngster Tidjane Balde had finally joined the Championship side, after weeks of talks between the two clubs for the midfielder.
However Reports in the last hour claim that Cardiff City still have their eyes set on bringing in Bassi which follows on from claims earlier in the month they had joined the race to sign the stopper. The Welsh club are keen to sign a goalkeeper in this transfer window, and Bassi is an option.
Bassi is looking to leave the Serie A side before the transfer deadline because of the lack of opportunities he has had this season. However, Empoli want Bassi to remain at the club at least until the summer when his contract expires. Another stumbling block for Cardiff City is that the player would prefer to sign for an Italian club, rather than move abroad.
Empoli were promoted back to the top flight of Italian football last season but Bassi hasn’t playerd in many games in the first team. He has made just four starts in Serie A this season and hasn’t played since the loss to league champions Juventus, which was nine matches ago. His contract runs out in the summer but Bassi would prefer to leave in this transfer window rather than wait until June.
