The meaning of 'supporter'.

Sat Jan 24, 2015 5:57 pm

Today I left the ground confused. Not because of the score and Slade's management (he is not doing it for us and should go).

I was confused for a different reason and to the point that I had to open a dictionary at home and search for the word 'supporter'.

This is what I found:

Supporter

1. a person who or thing that acts as a support
2. a person who backs a sports team, politician, etc
3. (Medicine) a garment or device worn to ease the strain on or restrict the movement of a bodily structure or part
4. (Heraldry) heraldry a figure or beast in a coat of arms depicted as holding up the shield
or beast in a coat of arms depicted as holding up the shield

So 'supporter' BACKS a sports team'.

We are supporting our team alright, when we win!

After we've lost a first goal today nice Saturday atmosphere changed. Our fans started to boo players. I mean come on. We've lost a goal. This is where our team needs us. This is when we should sing Lauder.

What happened after we've lost second goal is just horrible. With massive numbers leaving the stadium.

I think next game they should give free dictionaries away!

I don't blame them, they paid a lot o money to watch shit football and not really entertaining, so I think they're entitled to boo and the useless manager! :old:

What a joke of a post.
People go down the City week in week out & by doing this & spending a shed load of money - that's supporting.
The absolute boring dross that Slade is dishing out, it's no wonder fans are showing their discontent. I don't boo & never have but if people want to after constantly watch these heartless displays, who can blame them, I can't.
Should everybody just smile & clap after being subjected to that every home game?
Fans are showing passion which is more than the players are showing & that's for sure.

I can't believe anybody could write such a smarmy post after watching that today.

Our support was shit today in number & quality but it don't help with the club closing canton stand where the support is so vocal and passionate. Instead we are dispersed around the ground. Who remembers canton doing the conga at one of our road to Wembley cup games? Class those were the days. But our supporters are definatley turning to the sing when your winning breed its true Annis. Its sad because affects results and also I always felt proud of our support knowing we were up there with the best but now we are shown up by rival supporters on a regular basis.

Spot on.
I think this OP is the most delusional things I've read on here for months.

I think the meaning of a Supporter in this context is that we support the club. Individual players, managers, owners are not the club and if we believe that wrong decisions are being made then I think it behoves us to be vocal in opposition to it for the good of the club. No individual or groups of individuals are bigger than the club and its core support.

I agree with the dictionary point. Then maybe people could spell "louder"

So we should pay good money, travel hours (in my case) to get to the stadium, watch the players get schooled every game, and be zombified into thanking them afterwards. Get real, the football club owes it's fans entertainment for the entrance fee, and I for one am aware of that fact. I will never become a hot-dog munching zombie
