'Once a Blade...' John Brayford explains his move from Cardiff City to Sheffield United on Twitter
John Brayford has dropped a division to join Sheffield United from Cardiff City and says simply "Once a Blade...you know the rest."
Cardiff City defender John Brayford has dropped a division to join League One side Sheffield United on a three-and-a-half year deal.
Brayford, who had a previous spell on loan with the Blades, has returned to Bramall Lane for a fee believed to be between £1.5 and £2m depending on add ons and has tonight taken to Twitter to express his joy.
In his tweet he thanked the people at Sheffield United who made the move possible but did not mention Cardiff City or their fans.
The defender, who has played left back and right back under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Russell Slade this season, leaves the Bluebirds as the clear-out at the Cardiff City Stadium continues.
Cardiff boss Slade rejected the League One club's initial bid of around £1.2m though an increased offer was soon accepted.
Brayford, 27, is close to Blades boss Nigel Clough having played under him at Derby County and reunites with his former boss in the steel city.
Brayford's previous loan spell at the Blades saw the South Yorkshire club make the FA Cup semi final at Wembley, with the right back a popular figure among supporters.
With Brayford now out the door, a deal to bring Huddersfield full back Lee Peltier to the club is expected imminently.
Former Liverpool trainee Peltier spent time with Slade at Yeovil and was at Leeds last season before moving across Yorkshire to Huddersfield.
He has only played 11 times this season but would arrive at Cardiff ready to challenge for the spot vacated by Brayford.

We actually accepted the bid from Sheffield, you can't blame Brayford if we accept a deal to sell him after we were after Peltier anyway to replace him. I thought we had already reduced our wage bill from last season e.g.
Caulker out - Morrison In
Medel Out - Dicachoi In
Mutch Out - Adeyemi In
Campbell Out - Alf In
Theo Out - Brayford In ( back from loan)
SLADE OUT! OUT! OUT!

Decent player but not sorry to see him go.

Sorry to see him go, this year thought he was one of the most consistent performers as he played in his best position. Good to see him go to club that he feels strongly about, rather than go for the £ which litters our squad.

Spot on ! People need to realise we couldn't go on with 30odd players on the wage bill.

They're all jumping ship if they have the chance. Players not dull. They c we're heading for Div 1 under RS. I really didn't see what Brayford brought to the side as an attacking full back. Can't remember the last time I saw a decent cross into the box. Decent enough defender. Good business when u look at our replacements. Hope he does ok for the blades tho.

Lets be honest, Sheffield United is a proper football club.
20K in league 1, huge club that's gone through tough times but the fans stuck with them.......Wonder if they have got a no renew because we are going through a dodgy time campaign....
Will we ever get the truth why he was let to go on loan there in the first place ???
C'mon ITK ers malky and Brayford gone now

I also believe this was the case. SUFC wanted JB end of last season, & the feeling was more than mutual. Even SU fans were saying that a move was a certainty post season, last summer. It's didn't happen under OGS, but when Ollie left it was only a matter of time.
I don't know what happened between him & Malky, but It's obvious that's where the problem started, IMO.

I don't think any club has had it as bad as us , no other club has had a rebrand forced on them that completely divided the fans , our club is poison at the moment ,the only way I think the fans at this club can move on is when Tan leaves
