Cardiff fan took own life

Thu Jan 22, 2015 11:59 am

I found this story particularly sad considering a lady who lived in Penarth did the same thing yesterday! She won half a million on a scratchcard a couple of years back but gambled it away again. RIP :(

Cardiff City fan took own life days before he was due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court

Martin Davies, 56, of Clive Place in Penarth, died on September 25 last year after being hit by a train at a level-crossing in Cardiff

Cardiff Coroner's Court
A Cardiff City fan who was due to appear before Cardiff Crown Court took his own life, an inquest has heard.

Martin Davies, 56, of Clive Place in Penarth, died on September 25 last year after being hit by a train at a level-crossing at St Georges near St Fagans in Cardiff. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A friend of Mr Davies, Francis John Abrams, told the inquest at Cardiff Coroner’s Court on Wednesday that he had known Mr Davies for 42 years.

In his written statement he said: “I’ve known Martin since he was 14. He enjoyed going to Cardiff City home and away games. He liked going to the local pub and going out in the evenings. He was in many bands over the years.”

Mr Abrams said he was made aware that Mr Davies was arrested in September 2014 and subsequently charged with a “serious offence” but said he was not aware of the detail.

He said he learned of his friend’s death a week after he died when friends started ringing around to see where he was.

“I was as surprised as everyone else when I heard the news,” he said.

Police officer James Michael Dowler said in his written statement submitted to the court that Mr Davies was taken into custody by police in relation to allegations that were made against him and was arrested.

He said: “He appeared before the local magistrates’ court and was due to be dealt with my crown court by way of sentence.”

The crown court sentencing was due to take place on October 10.

The driver of the train, Michael Charles Wilding, said he was travelling at 75mph as he approached the crossing at 10.45am.

He said Mr Davies’ actions were “absolutely deliberate”.

Coroner Andrew Barkley recorded a verdict of suicide.

He said: “I accept the cause of death as multiple injuries and formally conclude that it was as a result of suicide.”

It's sad that someone wants to end their life but why do all these people jump in front of trains I feel sorry for the driver more imagine how he felt seeing that I bet he's traumatised

its a very selfish way to die, but people in despair are in such a desperate situation that other peoples wellbeing is the last thing on their minds.

he committed a serious crime and killed himself. thats sad, but what is also sad is he will not serve his sentence.

He was accused of something so it's unfair to say.

Yes she also had mental problems from a serious issue that occurred in her youth.
