Bolton and Cardiff City have come to an agreement, resulting in Joe Mason's loan at Macron Stadium being terminated.
Mason was due to spend the rest of the campaign at the club, having joined on loan for the third time last August, but struggled to force his way into Neil Lennon's plans after he succeeded Dougie Freedman in October.
The 23-year-old became the first Wanderers player to score a hat-trick since April 2002 when he netted three times against Rotherham United in September, but he hadn't appeared since a 1-1 draw at Blackpool on November 22 and faces another month on the sidelines with a torn hamstring.
In total, Mason scored four goals in 14 games this season, taking his overall numbers for the club up to 10 goals in 30 appearances.
