Oops! Gomis leaves = Swans pay £8m?

Tue Jan 20, 2015 7:27 pm

Apparently, Gomis is unhappy at the liberty and making noises about leaving, just after Bony fledged. Trouble is, they will have to pay him £8m signing on fee if he leaves. Palace are thought to be interested but offered £9m which was rejected. I'm not surprised if this info is correct!!

No wonder he's talking publicly about his disquiet!!

I think it's because he was a free agent so able to command his own fee which would presumably be paid to him over the length of his contract. If he leaves early, this still has to be paid to him (maybe in a chunk - not sure to be honest).

Also Neil Taylor leaving them this month, and rumours of the directors of the club taking loans out against the clubs name. The model club doesn't seem to be a model club for itself anymore.

Thats's one hell of a rumour you have there! Look, I know you sold your souls to get where we were and it all went tits up for you, but please don't post utter shit to try and make yourself feel a little better about it all eh! " directors of the club taking loans out against the clubs name"! :laughing6: What planet are you on?

Oh, and to the OP. We will most certainly not have to pay Gomis £8m if he leaves. His signing on fee was indeed £8m but is structured into his weekly wage and payable on the duration of his stay. IE: If he stays for 4 years (which he is entitled to do as he has a contract) then he will receive £8m on top of his wage. If he doesn't stay and we sell him, then his signing on fee with us is null and void and it is up to the buying club to pay whatever signing on fee is negotiated between himself and his agent. Hope this helps.

Strange signing why sign him, and not play him more often.

Any player who WANTS to leave & puts that in writing will receive no severance of any kind.

If the club accept a fee for him then yes he may have a clause. Can't believe it's as high as £8m myself but either way Swansea are not stupid they'll happily hold on to him. If he really wants to go, well there's a pen get writing & off you trot son.

Quite simply we expected a serious offer for Bony in the summer which didn't materialise. Gomis was his intended replacement. When the offer didn't come we were stuck. We can't play 442 and Bony is the better striker. In the end it was to our detriment as I believe Bony to be worth at least £35m. However, a club like us cannot afford too pay 2 strikers a combined weekly wage of upwards of £140k a week, so we had to take less for Bony as thats what was offered and all Man City could pay due too FFP.

Don't worry Jack we can't play 442 either .....

or 451,433,424 or just football.

I doubt Huw has done anything stupid, his luck was due to run out, but he knows the game inside out.

Maybe he saw what swans did with michu & bony? And suffered himself with bony! none of them played 90 mins in vast majority of games one or other was substituted in game so next signing he may suffer same fate? No player wants to be sub during game especially when playing well. Just an observation

Spot on Allan. Strikers usually have big egos and rely on game time to keep themselves sharp. This is a classic case where a player thinks he deserves to be on the pitch but the manager was never going to play both Gomis and Bony together. 442 just isn't in the mindset of that club.

He's finally thrown his teddy out of the cot and even the promise of number 1 spot won't appease him. I think he saw an opportunity for reflected glory working alongside Bony. Doesn't fancy being the lone striker.
