Swansea academy in Cardiff area

Tue Jan 20, 2015 2:52 pm

Went to school on monday and some of the kids told me they had a trial for Swansea at heath park on Sunday. Over 50 kids attended. Can't remember this happening before and would be gutted if we lost talent to them.

Doing my c certificate coaching this year and one of coaches who was working at Swansea academy explained how from under 9 to first team every session begins with 20 minutes passing which obviously filters into the style of play through club and cardiff don't have this in their academy as he has just transferred to Cardiff.

With the cutting costs of expensive first team players which I agree with the search for local talent should be even more important now and a coaching style running through the club not a mismatch of ideas. If we lost a star to them I would be devastated.

From under 9 to first team with us every session begins with 20 minutes long balls and long throws followed by more of the same for the rest of the session.

They are recruiting big time I already no players ccfc academy had have moved to Swansea and it pains me to say those kids are treated better and enjoy it more.

From my own experience with my son he was treated like shit and it hurt us both from the club we love too.

Ccfc need to sort it out because the adc seem to be about the money it was actually quite poor really.

You can imagine it can't you. Ben turner teaching kids the art of the left foot hoof. Gunnarsson holding a session on throwing ball into penalty box from anywhere in opposition half. Then Slade holding a seminar on keeping possession and tactical systems. '4-4-2 it's the future'.

I was speaking with a mate of mine from Swansea, big Swans fan and he runs a football team in Swansea, and he said Cardiff were always in Swansea running Academys for all ages and 4 of his players have already signed for us :bluescarf:

Doesn't bother me. Swansea are yet to produce a professional player from Cardiff in the modern era (that I know of) so until then, I don't care.

Didn't we produce Adam Matthews? A Swansea lad who came through the Cardiff academy?

My cousin is playing for Swansea now so there you go but it's Cardiff's fault because they treat players like rubbish or the setup is all bad. Loads have gone to other places like Bath only to be snapped up then by the likes of Bristol. Cardiff have also turned down some quality youngsters who've gone on to make it elsewhere which is shocking. I'm not claiming these players are world class but the potential was definitely there.

Even with all that taken into consideration he still ain't getting anything for his birthday or Christmas. He made his bed and he can lie in it.

Regan Poole 16,who now plays for County's first team, was released by us. Apparently Fulham are going to sign him. He should never have been let go.

As for the Jacks poaching our kids, it's no surprise. It's disappointing, but we've done it to them in the past, with the likes of Adam Matthews.

my son , has trials for swansea, on saturday down the council ground, they rang around the boys clubs asking , if you had any boys that were good enough for a trial at swansea, the coach said , i have 3 boys that i would put forward,my boy was 1 of the 3, the coach knows im a cardiff fan, and said , we will just go to have a look around , see how it works? my gripe with cardiff are, you PAY to go to there christmas day courses and be picked out, swansea have done something, by picking up the phone and ringing the cardiff clubs, and we are a st mellons team, thats how far up they are, bordering in newport, wouldnt have happened years ago, my boy has said though, i will score an own goal if i play against cardiff,

Cardiff have an academy in Bristol (Yate, to be exact). I'm sure City and Rovers would be just as frustrated to lose a future star to us.

Surely you should care now, when there's time to stop that from happening.

For years you've dominated in terms of the academies and will have taken plenty of players from our area, but the tide is changing quick and fast, we've just over taken you and the gap is increasing.

Why? Because your academy beat ours once the other day?

No, because we're meeting our schedule to fulfil Category A criteria by April.

As been pointed out clubs have these things in other clubs areas us in your area your in ours! No big deal as been going on for decades I was asked to go to Torquay in 1970! Fact is no club can sign every good kid? as dont need every position covering , or own academy will overflow and dilute standards

Adam Matthews was told by the Swansea academy after he broke his arm to come back after he had recovered , when he did indeed recover he was told the academy was now full .
You didst poach him . but if it makes you feel better then by all means carry on .

If anything that just proves the regime at the time were clueless. If a player is talented you make space for them. That was a daft decision especially when that player then goes down the road and signs for your rivals. Its as bad as the decision we made to not tie him down to a lengthy deal. All in the past now however and your academy truly puts ours to shame. Ours is embarrassing and even worse when you think of the money invested. Our scouting network expands as far as Slade's telephone book I think as it currently stands and I'm pretty sure Solskjaer's network was just his mates in Norway and Malky Mackay used previous editions of FIFA.

what a monumental cock up, an almost amateurish way to run an academy. i

i do hope we continue to fund the academy properly and make sure the best kids from the area are given a good chance of making it here at CCFC.

however, the longer we are a division apart, i feel more young players in south wales will be seduced by the swans.

There are scouts from almost every club In almost every area of the UK. We lost Bale to Southamptom. This isn't shocking in the slightest. We could open an academy down Swansea if we wanted, population is lower there so perhaps it's not in our interest.

West Glamorgan Dev centre u6's to u11's play out of play football Swansea and provided many players from Swansea for our academy. Been operating from there for about 4 years and at neath before moving there.

This new swansea adc centre which is starting on 28th feb is partially funded by swansea football club unlike cardiffs adc centre which is run by itself so its priority is get as many kids in and reap the money. By this the training become a farce with up to 20 kids training on the small gol centre pitches. My son was there but he wanted to leave after 18 months as he began to hate it so he moved onto mike fowlers set up with is alot better training and now went to that trial for this swanea adc and got in. They asked all cardiff clubs and alot of schols to put boys forward and he had his trial at swanseas academy with about 60 other boys. He will now start end of feb and be training over heathpark on a saturday aswell as the other age groups from u7-u10s..

What a thread, proves only that some boys from Cardiff will sign for Swansea, some boys from Swansea will sign for Cardiff.

99.9% of them won't make it and will be playing parks football at 25 anyway, so why worry
