Former Cardiff head of recruitment says he didn't recognise himself after 'reading back things' and maintains he wants 'a proper framework of behaviour' for his two young children

Malky Mackay's old Cardiff City number two Iain Moody has spoken for the first time over the Bluebirds textgate scandal, claiming: 'Good people sometimes do bad things'.

Moody broke his silence on the matter in an interview with Crystal Palace fanzine Five Year Plan.

Moody and former Bluebirds manager Mackay are subject of a Football Association probe after Cardiff sent the governing body a detailed dossier about alleged racist, homophobic and sexist texts sent between the pair during their time with the club.

The Football Association is said to be nearing the conclusion of its lengthy investigation into their conduct, which also cost Moody his job as Crystal Palace sporting director.

Moody told the fanzine: “In life, most people you meet are good people. There are some who aren’t and never will be.

“I think good people sometimes do bad things. It doesn’t mean that they are no longer good people and I think everyone has got something you can refer to in your own past to say why did I do that?

“I think we can all look back on experiences of reacting to situations in a particular way and thinking ‘God, there’s no way I would do that again’, or even as has happened to me, reading back things and not even recognising that it was me who said them, thinking… and I’m not denying it was me, but that’s unrecognisable and it’s not a reflection of where I am and what I stand for, and the education that I have had; and I don’t mean necessarily formal education but upbringing.

“I’m the father of two young kids at the moment and it’s become the most important thing in my life that there is a proper framework or behaviour and expectation for them to be good people. So there’s a distortion. People get distorted then things that people do are interpreted in a distorted way.”

The affair cost Mackay – now manager of Wigan – the chance to become Palace manager, while Moody resigned.

He admitted he had considered doing so previously after Spygate - separate allegations he had obtained the Bluebirds team sheet prior to Palace's 3-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium in April. But he said he had the support of club co-chairman Steve Parish.

Moody insisted he decided to leave Palace because he didn't want to become a story that 'impacted' on the Eagles as they started the season.

Moody added: "I don’t ever want to be the story, and I was my own worst enemy in that in some ways, and I would act differently if I did it again now.

“There was kind of an understanding that I’ll just go, I’ll just go. Steve throughout [the previous issues] was like ‘no, no, no, I want you to stay, you’re doing a good job, we need you.’ But that was a little bit there and then. They were looking for a manager at the time, the season had just started, transfer window open, there was a lot of stuff going on and I had become a story and I didn’t want to be a story that impacted on Palace.

“So as soon as I knew what was going to happen in the press I spoke to Steve and said ‘I will just go’. From this day I will just go and I won’t bother you again, and that’s kind of what happened.

“I was disappointed. I had a 10 fantastic months and I loved all the people. There’s brilliant people everywhere at the club, it’s quirky, it needs a bit of work, a bit of love but they’ve got absolutely the right people doing the right things for the right reasons, and it’s not often I can say that.”

What I find amazing is that both MM & IM are still subject to an FA probe on the matter. When Wigan's Dave Whelan said what he said it was investigated & concluded almost immediately. Very strange!

Good people sometimes do bad things - Is that Moodys way of saying I'm in the sh*t ?

It's taken so long because the FA are in difficulty because of the way they previously let Richard Scudamore off the hook over the sexist texts he sent. They ruled that the texts were in private communications and that they were therefore not able to take action over them. It is possible to convincingly argue that Malky's comments were also "private" and therefore cannot be subject to action by the FA.They clearly want to come down on hard on him.however, and have spent months trawling through his other actions as a manager to find other evidence against him. I imagine they will have spoken to people like Ibi Farah. Whelan's comments were clearly public so they dealt with him immediately.

Interesting. Thanks for the clarification.

The bit about him not recognising himself would be really convincing if he had passed on inappropriate "jokes". However, there were directly racist and homophobic comments about employees at CCFC. That is why it doesn't hold as much water.

It will be good when this sorry episode is put to bed. It's just hanging round like a bad smell at the moment.

Both decent guys,
after all theres nothing wrong with an occasional bit of racism if your wages are payed by a foreign
owner and you have black/ethnic race players.

Some of my business associates are asian/Muslim if me and another white guy sent racist texts on our
company mobile 'not another packie' or you better ring the bomb squad more fuckin muzzies on their way
it would be horrendously racist and wrong.

Funny though :laughing6: .

I Am obviously Joking.
about the funny its never funny when you get caught or someone gets hurt or offended by remarks
