2,000 Rovers Fans travelled

Woking v Bristol Rovers: 200 fans locked out of ground

Around 200 Bristol Rovers fans were locked out of Saturday's Conference game at Woking because the away end was over capacity.

The Chris Lane Terrace at the Kingfield Stadium holds 1,800 fans, but more than 2,000 Pirates supporters made the trip.

The turnstiles were shut once the away stand was full, meaning a section of fans were unable to watch the 0-0 draw.

A Woking spokesperson said Rovers had declined to make it all-ticket - a claim the club have yet to respond to.
The official attendance at the Conference game was 3,853 - some way short of the 6,000 capacity - but Woking were unwilling to allow away fans into areas designated for home supporters.
"You can only have a certain number in the ground otherwise you get in trouble with the licensing authorities," said Woking spokesperson John Moore.
"The estimate was that 1,200 was the highest number they had taken to other games. They hadn't played for a while so we thought we could add another 500 on top of that, but it exceeded that.
"The fact is, you can't simply just let people come into the ground because it's segregated."
Bristol Rovers were relegated to non-league for the first time in their history last May, but are currently second in the Conference standings.

It was the League Cup in 1986 I reckon. We played well but lost to a late goal. Bit of bother after final whistle. It was the year we beat Chelsea and got a bye v Luton as they were kicked out for not allowing away fans.
