SLADE V MALKY

Sun Jan 18, 2015 12:09 pm

Two years ago in January as we sat at the top of the Championship I said to a colleague in work how dire the football was!!!! I told him we were about the SIXTH or SEVENTH best team and the only reason we were top was Malky had the fittest and most organized side in the division lumping balls up front hoping to gain a set piece.

There is no difference between the two managers tactically that i can see.

The only difference between the two was Malky had the team set up better to counter attack.

The Football under Malky was CARP but we allowed it because we were TOP of the league!! And he was found out at the highest level.
The Football under Slade is CARP and NO excuses can hide the fact that we will be very very lucky (like Watford away) to win any games if we cannot keep posession in midfield!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope Slade can keep us in this Division.........

Malky had time to build his team. He came in during a summer break and had the space to get what he wanted, get them fit and organised. Malkys football was dire but he had a job to do and did it. Personally I felt he was a better choice than when Ole came in. The problem Malky had was an interfering owner who from all accounts wanted him out after the Acorn dealing. Whatever the circumstances for this it basically unsettled the whole outfit.

Slade has not had the same chance as Malky. He has come in when the season was well under way. In fairness he was an improvement on Ole but now he is struggling. We are not sure what conditions he is working under. A number are saying Tan picks the team. I'm not sure that is right. More like Tan wants a "balanced book" squad in relation to the attendances. Like it or not Slade had got more experience achieving that than Ole. At what cost only time will tell.

So both are and had work under difficult circumstances. However comparing to what Malky did in his first season to what Slade is about to do I don't think anyone is in a position yet to judge. However if I was a betting man I would give it to Malky by a narrow margin.

Malky had a season to bed in the core of the group, then the next season we had Bellemy who although on the downgrade was the best player in the championship........

No contest Malky is the best manager we have had for 50 years, pretty football doesn't always win games, hard work and playing like a team does. At the moment we are not a team

Fair play baked I've never seen you write anything I agree with but that assessment is spot on and this the reason why for me slade gets a proper chance in my book give him this window and the summer window and see how he fairs next season by October I'll have a fairer and more balanced opinion of him to make a decent comparison

The ony thing that won't make it fair as it could be is funds he's not going to get the same level of backing that malky had but he'll be given chance to bring in his own personel for sure

Did they get us to a cup final and promotion to the PL?

Its depressing to think that this time last season we were playing at Man Utd and City in the same fortnight, and not getting thumped at either.
This season we are lucky not to get thumped by Bournemouth and Brentford (well actually we are getting thumped by them).

So depressing, and needless.

i've been saying that mackay and slade's tactics are similar for ages now, the only difference between them is a baseball cap and good results.

Am I the only one that found the football under Ole worse.

There were games under solksjaer that we literally could barely string a few passes together. Under was the only time I've left with more than ten minutes to go. I saw more long ball under him than either mackay or slade. The players had zero confidence and resorted to it.

Terrible.

The football under Ole was shocking.

With my limited funds I was REALLY happy that I managed to get tickets to City vs middlesbrough in the championship and then also able to go the following week as well to see City V Bournemouth in the capital one cup

Boro one nil after a shocking performance and I thought it couldn't get worse. Headed to CCS full of hope that we'd manage to stuff Bournemouth... 3 - 0 down within half an hour.

Those were the worst two I've seen. Slade HAS steadied the ship in a few areas. I think his lack of choice for a number 2has and will continue to have an effect and I do not think our current coaches are up to the job. Still, that said, I will be supporting him and backing him to stay with us and see what he can do when he's had time out from a hectic Championship schedule.

Plus, as far as we're aware he's not a massive bigot... so he's got that going for him.

The last 3 have been poor in one way or another. I didn't like DJ as a person but at least we had a bit of flair and style

Yes I was and I will say it again, Malky is the best manager we have had in the last 40/50 years, Scouler was good, so yes will give him the 2nd best, Malky got us to a cup final with a average team then with a bit of cash got us to Premier, and would have have kept us there given the chance, OGS had money to spend and look what happened.Cash does not get you promoted, it helps of course it does buth you also need a good manager,
