Norwich 3-2 Cardiff
The new Norwich manager, Alex Neil, was well satisfied with his side’s 3-2 win, despite seeing his side nearly contrive to throw away a 3-0 half-time lead. “We were excellent for 60 minutes and the bottom line is that we have come away with the three points, so I am happy with that. The overriding emotion at the end was one of relief, though, because we really shouldn’t have been in that position.” Cardiff’s manager, Russell Slade, rued their poor first half. “We have seen it before, at Brentford and Bournemouth, where we have left ourselves with too much to do.”

Watford 5-0 Charlton
Slavisa Jokanovic praised his Watford’s side’s all-round display after they took apart a very poor Charlton side. “We achieved it together. I speak about the whole team, it’s not just about Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo – they played well but all the team played well. It’s not a question about one or two players.” Charlton’s new Israeli manager, Guy Luzon, was unable to take charge because of problems with his work permit, so the first-team coach, Damian Matthew, oversaw the game. “It’s been a tough week for the players, a tough week for the club. All we can do is look to improve.”

Wolves 2-0 Blackpool
Kenny Jackett said his side’s 2-0 win was a fitting result as the club celebrated the life of former owner Sir Jack Hayward, who died at the age of 91 on Tuesday. “The fans turned out in great numbers for somebody who is a favourite son of both the city and the club. It was a great tribute before the game and it was a bumper crowd to celebrate a fantastic life. It was very, very well handled by the club and Sir Jack’s family, and as head coach I’m delighted we followed through with a good result.” Lee Clark said: “We didn’t carry any threat. We just have to dust ourselves down.”

And the rest

Andre Gray scored his 10th of the season as Brentford won 1-0 at 10-man Brighton. ■ A Bryan Ruiz injury-time strike earned Fulham a 2-1 home win against Reading. ■ Luke Murphy’s late goal saved a point for Leeds in a 1-1 draw with Birmingham. ■ Middlesbrough are unbeaten in 10 games at home after two Lee Tomlin goals gave them a 2-0 win over Huddersfield. ■ Bournemouth stayed top with a 2-0 win at Rotherham. ■ Bolton won 2-1 at 10-man Sheffield Wednesday. ■ And James McClean’s equaliser gave Wigan a 1-1 home draw against Blackburn.
