According to reports in Italy Cardiff City have stepped up in their pursuit for Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi. The Welsh club have been linked with the player in the past few days but they will face competition from fellow Championship side Leeds United and clubs from Italy.

TMW have reported that Cardiff have been in contact with Empoli over the possibility in bringing the player to the club. It has claimed that the Serie A club have been made aware by Cardiff that they are keen to sign Bassi in this transfer window. Leeds are also interested in the goalkeeper but both clubs will face competition from Serie A side Cagliari to land the player.

We covered the story earlier this week that Leeds United and Cardiff City had joined the race to sign Bassi. The player looks to be leaving the club and the two Championship sides are both showing a keen interest in him. Empoli were promoted back to the top flight of Italian football last season but Bassi hasn’t had many opportunities in the first team.

He has made just four starts in Serie A this season and hasn’t played since the loss to league champions Juventus which was eight matches ago. His contract runs out in the summer but he would prefer to leave in this transfer window rather than wait until June. If he doesn’t move in January he will be able to speak to other clubs next month regarding a pre contract and a chance to leave on a free transfer in the summer window.

I can't see him coming here to play second fiddle. Does this mean Marshall is off?

If we do sign him surely he'll be nicknamed "Shirley"?

He will be back up to Moore or fight it out for top spot with marshy departing.

Marshall leaving - Marshall gone hence why not played last few games - had ankle injury just on the start of transfers more like not risking injury - :bluescarf:

Seems that way, I would be very surprised to see Marshall here at the end of this transfer window and if not this one I expect him gone in the summer

But he did injure his ankle against Watford towards the end of the game and looked in some discomfort. I agree he might well be sold but its unfair to say its a smokescreen by the club.

For all we know, Marshalls injury could be worse than what they say. He may be out for the season. In which case we need quality cover.

Still don't see this as our priority at the moment especially with Moore being as good as he is.
