Sky have reported that Premier League Club Hull City have offered a deal worth £4million for former Cardiff City Striker Rudy Gestede, plus WBA & QPR also willing to offer cash deals of £3million.

Wed Jan 14, 2015

Blackburn striker Gestede couldn't find a place in Cardiff City's starting XI but is now a reported target for the likes of West Brom, Hull City and QPR

Former Cardiff City misfit Rudy Gestede could be set for a return to the Premier League as a number of top-flight clubs reportedly chase the striker.

Gestede left South Wales for Blackburn Rovers early last season after failing to establish himself as a first-team regular under Malky Mackay.

The French forward, 26, has netted 14 goals for Rovers this season, taking his total to 24 in 44 matches since his £200,000 move to Ewood Park.

And now new West Brom manager Tony Pulis is said to be keen on taking him to the Hawthorns.

Pulis will have to pay big money for Gestede and could find there is competition for his signature, with Hull City reported to be planning a £4.5m bid.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is also tracking Gestede, according to some reports, and could feel he is the man to help their battle against relegation.

Gestede made three Premier League appearances for Cardiff, all from the subs bench, before joining Blackburn.

He had joined the Bluebirds when former manager Malky Mackay invited him to spend a week on trial during City’s pre-season tour to Seville in 2011.

Gestede scored the only goal in Cardiff’s 1-0 win against Charlton Athletic on a baking hot afternoon in Coria del Rio and signed when the squad returned to Wales.

Now Baggies boss Pulis is keen to link Benin international Gestede with West Brom top scorer Saido Berahino, although the England under-21 international is being heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthorns.

I'd hope so, after all the hours Wilkinson put in trying to teach him how to trap the ball and pass it 15 yards

I always liked him,,,one of only a few players that managers see potential when on trial, take a gamble on, & it pays off.

We could certainly do with him now!

Always liked Rudy. Was never given a real chance by Malky. Did lot's of damage coming on as a sub but could have done with a run of games as he's had at Blackburn. What is it with our managers, Malky, Ole and now Slade-good players aren't given a fair chance. Though to be fair to Slade, his job is obviously to cut down the squad and cut wage bill which he is doing.

Rudy wasn't quite up to Premiership level when he was with us and we did the right thing loaning him back to the Championship so he could have a run of games and continue improving. Rudy always gave 100% and was a nuisance for defenders. He was a more modern Leo Fortune-West in some ways where we could put him on with 20 minutes left and his presence and commitment against the tiring defenders would create openings. He was an absolute nightmare for defenders to play against, we did a lot of work with him to improve his game and he would have been worth keeping. He would currently give us a much better option than Macheda up front.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Malky loaned Rudy out and then Ole allowed Blackburn to sign him permanently to free up space to bring Kenwyne Jones in, which was fair enough and a decision I agreed with at the time. It's great to see Rudy fulfilling the potential we all thought he had mind and I wish him well if he does get to the Premiership. But in my opinion, I think Rudy will always come under the "good target man in Championship but not quite up to Premiership level" category. I just feel his touch and link up play would be massively exposed in the Premiership, unless he joined a team who play very direct football of course.

your right it was malky who loaned him out but it was a loan with an agreement to be permanent in the January window of that season
so you are wrong about ole making it permanent as he had no option
hope this is of some help to you tonteg :bluescarf:

Rudy always had one thing going for him....heading ability. Had 2 left feet but put the ball on his head and it was in the net. We just didn't utilise that enough.

What's the chances of there being no sell-on fee in his contract yet again.

He did not set the world alight at Cardiff however the club has a habit of not spotting talent and letting it go. E.g. Guerra, Daehli, Morrison. Enough said!

His second touch was always a tackle but hes done well for himself at Blackburn.
Good luck to him :bluescarf:

He was great for us. People saying he wasn't are kidding themselves. I was one of his biggest fans and Chuckles shot me down because I had a difference of opinion. Rudy was utilised by Malky in a way that wasn't 100% suited to his game. He always chased things down and tried and he scored some very important goals. He also held the ball up well. He always had very good potential. People just liked using him as a scapegoat during a season in which there wasn't much else to moan about. Our fans generally just love a good old moan. I said Rudy would peak around 28-29 as all strikers of his type do, they're taller players who have a lot of mental education in football to do as well in regard to positioning. At 28-29 I think he'll be doing well in the PL and stand by that statement.

Put it in your calendars: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=132580

I call on Chuckles to apologise to Rudy via Twitter. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Really rated Gestede but I don't know why. Sometimes his touch deserted him at crucial moments, but I liked his attitude and resilience. I bet he will do well eventually.

I agree,,,,and to add insult to injury, he was a lot better player than Cornelius was at that time, & that to me just epitomises the whole problematic situation at City,,,both then and now!
