NATHAN BLAKE: "NO THANK YOU VINCENT TAN"

Cardiff City legend Nathan Blake won't thank Vincent Tan for return to blue insisting 'red should never have happened'

Monday 12th Jan 2015.

Cardiff City legend Nathan Blake insists he has nobody to thank for the decision to turn his beloved club back to blue because it should never have been allowed and it took too long to reverse.

The fans were feeling blue and loving it. Cardiff City won against Fulham and that went down a storm on an upbeat day for the club.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Bluebirds’ players will have benefited from the decision to reverse the rebrand and go back to blue.

They are, at last, able to identify with the shirt they pull on and the badge they play for. I can’t over emphasise how important that is to a player

It’s great to see players gripping the front of their shirt and the badge in a passionate show of club passion. Supporters love it and that’s happened so many times at Ninian Park and Cardiff City Stadium over the years

Having to go out and play in a kit the fans hated must have affected the City players psychologically. They were between a rock and a hard place in terms of knowing the owner, Vincent Tan, wanted red and the fans saw blue as the only colour possible.

The change back to blue is positive all the way for Cardiff fans.

Personally, though, I wasn’t celebrating on Saturday. For me, Cardiff City colours should never have been changed to red. It also took too long to change them back.

I appreciate the gesture by Cardiff’s owner, but I see no reason to thank anybody because I didn’t agree with the change from day one.

Yes, it’s great for the fans. They can identify with the team they are watching – the Bluebirds – and, from Russell Slade’s viewpoint, this must be a starting point.

Let’s hope it galvanises the players even more and they have a chance to ride a wave of euphoria sweeping the club.

The atmosphere around the stadium during Cardiff’s 1-0 win against Fulham was fantastic. It was the second biggest attendance of the season at 22,000-plus and everybody was in the mood to party.

That could only help the team.

Hopefully, this gives the manager a breather at the right time with two or three weeks of the transfer window to run. The pressure could ease a little and Cardiff will surely head into February with everything in place for a big push.

They need the right results in their next three fixtures, but everybody is right behind the club and our team. That’s great and makes a real difference.

The rebrand was a problem nobody wanted and now it’s gone.

I am thankful for that.

Put the red era in the past and quickly.

This season is far from over and I believe Cardiff can still progress and challenge for the play-offs.

We can only really analyse the chances at the end of January when we know all the ins and outs in terms of players, but the chance is there.

Teenage striker Islam Feruz has returned to Chelsea after his trial. There was a strong probability he would stay on loan for the rest of this season, but that hasn’t worked out.

I’m not surprised because I was never sure he is the type of player City need right now. That’s not having a go at the lad, but Slade must ensure every player he has fits into the system he wants to play.

There are other targets and Slade will press on with his task of adding another one or two signings.

It was great to see Simon Moore keep a clean sheet on his league debut for Cardiff, having been called up for the injured David Marshall.

New signings Scott Malone and Alex Revell both made their debut and played their part in a win. Now there is a need to build from here, both for those players individually and the team.

Over the next two or three matches Slade must make big moves towards a settled team and ensure every player knows what their role is and how the manager wants them to play.

It doesn’t matter what the system is as long as each players knows their own job and how they must interact with team-mates.

It won’t be easy to establish a settled team when he still wants to bring in a couple more and centre-half Bruno Manga is on Africa Cup of Nations duty, but Slade must make progress.

There are six scheduled Championship fixtures in February, three at home and three away, and that is the time City must strike.

No matter what happens against Norwich and Middlesbrough away or Derby at home this month the Bluebirds have an opportunity to fire up their challenge next month, starting at Sheffield Wednesday and taking in Brighton (home), Blackburn (home), Huddersfield (away), Wigan (away) and Wolves (home).

A decent haul of points from that run of fixtures is perfectly possible - and will be crucial if Cardiff are to finish the season on a high.

He is a City legend for me, will forget the era where he played for us and 'the goal' against Man City in 94.

He played about 130 games for us and lives off that goal.
He was just a very decent player no more. It takes more than that goal & a few years playing for us to be a legend.

Nathan Blake is a nobody. Fed up of people calling him a legend. Whittingham is a legend. He aint at all. I bet Tan doesn't even know he exists so why would he care for your apology? Washed up and boring Blake. Do us a favour and go and spend time with your family instead of chatting poo in the media.

He's hardly been vociferous in his condemnation of the rebrand, he just had the attitude that footballs a business and the owner pays his money in, so has the right to do what he wants with the club. Typical ex pro attitude, he would be too arrogant to offer thanks for most things, I reckon.

Exactly, Annis

Sadly, Nathan has become another media bandwagon-jumper willing to change his views according to the situation and the need of his paymasters

And words like those are hardly going to be conciliatory after the fans effectively won the day with (in my personal opinion) the continued wearing of blue, the 19:27 protest and the threat of lower crowds next season

We all talked about 'pulling together' at this historic time, but it seems one or two are still chasing their own agendas and it does them no credit!

Blakey's spot on. Tan broke into my house and nicked all my furniture. 2 1/2 years later a furniture van turns up outside and he wants my respect and gratitude? Jog on, Vinny. :D

Yes but we don't know what implications could of happened if former players joined the anti rebrand thing. Might of been banned by the club, might of been sued, a lot of people on here where against Sian and BU and then all of a sudden it's everyone else is getting praised heaped on them or fans going we was always part of it. I haven't been to the club in 3 years since the rebrand, and I agree with Blakey this should never of happened

As a player, Blake was a legend to me. He was one of the best City players of that era.

He is a crap pundit but he's not doing it for the money unless he blew his millions instead of robbing fruit machines.
