22,500 disapointed

Sat Jan 10, 2015 11:51 pm

I have been absolutely buzzing since Tan's mum changed us, praise Buddha, there was no way I was to miss the match today. I had a great time toady I am so happy I was witness to the first game. I just thought we could of packed the stadium with a larger crowd.

When we played PL football it was no problem to fill the stadium, so why was it a problem after 3 years not playing our traditional colour? I am not disappointed , I had a great day but can't help feeling we are 10,000 seats too many for what the club is.

Re: 22,500 disapointed

The extension is purely for the glory fans. The minute we're promoted to the Premier League there will be 33,000 in the stadium.

I think the time people had is one reason. It was only announced Friday remember.

But I bet the attendance of actual people was massively more than recent weeks.

We have to remember we had a 28K stadium and often gave 3K to away fans.....

Today we had 300/400 Fulham fans, so not too bad

People have got carried away due to recent success.

Next season even in Blue we will have 10-12,000 season tickets in the Championship.

We have around 16,000 season ticket holders now... when we were red... with arguably high prices.

What makes you say we'll have a few thousand less supporters now that we're in blue and the club have announced cheaper season tickets for next season? :?

Most people will see an increase though from price freeze.

Last season some hoped we would stay up.

Today hit home to me the stadium is too big, I seen this game as a massive date in the history of the club when in actual fact it's watching Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney et al that gets the crowds in, sad but true

In retrospect of my last comment, it's not sad as I thought the crowd was passionate today, I personally don't want the glory fans back :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Announcement yesterday said an extension on price freeze, plus reductions in prices for non-price freeze ST's to match the extension!

Stadium is to big for us atm though,

You're right though mate, I thought the attendance might of reached 24,000+ but the truth is as proper City fans we haven't reached much more than 25,000+ in the past, if the glory twats who came whilst we were in the Premier League don't want to know then consider it their lost.

We've got our Cardiff back ! :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Not how I read it.
thought it said minimal increase for price freeze.
Basically the new price will be between or email freeze and this season's prices

Re: 22,500 disapointed

Reverting back to blue is without doubt very important to many fans, so much so that fans boycotted games to make a stand.
The Fulham game gave people the chance to turn up in numbers and celebrate the fact we're now back in blue, the modest rise in attendance for this game is about what I expected after the news on Friday.
For many fans although important it's not the overriding factor why they choose to attend games or not, for myself for instance what takes place on the pitch is more concerning, shite football, players not putting the effort in, the tactical nous (or lack of it) of the management team and continually playing players that are clearly not up to it.
Great to see the boys back in blue today but I think it's time to sort out the under achieving on the pitch now, speaking for myself that is the most important thing that makes me decide to attend or not.

Jon in previous seasons fans have renewed for low price freezes, cup finals & the possibility of Premiership football.

Next season will be different unless we have a big improvement and make the play offs. The probability will be fans will be renewing for a mid table, Championship side. If that is the case I think there will be a big drop off in season ticket sales. The drop off would have been massive if Tan had not turned us back to Blue. I was hoping Tan would have offered some sort of deal to existing season ticket holders for this coming season at Thursdays meeting, to persuade existing season ticket holders to renew.

I have been watching Cardiff for a long time and our supporters have a tendency to pick and choose games depending on how the team are doing. The success of the club over the last couple of seasons has forced people to buy season tickets so they can watch the big games. If we finish the season outside the play offs, I will be very surprised if we get more than 12,000 season tickets next year.

I hope I am wrong and we sell more, but that's how I see it.

You have a fair point, but I don't think it would go as low as 12,000 for next season yet. I think we'd lose about a thousand or so. You never know, we might have a good run of form now after yesterday, just in time for the season ticket renewals. :thumbright:

Re: 22,500 disapointed

I'm afraid a few got very over excited about the return to blue.

Although it was fantastic news there were fans that believed the masses had the same view as them and everyone would come running back to the stadium.

This was not the case.

You may not like it but relegation and poor performances EASILY affect the crowds more than the rebrand.

There were people on Friday night expecting a 33k sell out. The rebrand reverse may have been the centre of THEIR Cardiff City universe but it played second or even third fiddle to poor performances and the lack of top tier football.

We'll lose shedloads.

The blue arguements have now come and gone but the real issue is the quality of football on offer.

We lost a few because of the rebrand but in reality most still attended bur if the football doesn't improve we'll lose many, many more.

Thats what people really go to games for and not a shirt colour.

Thing is for once all the ST holders showed up plus a few more like me who paid £35 for that. If we were in the prem then you can add 3000 away fans so that only leaves space for 2000 anyway, as it was when we had a 27k capacity. A lot of people won't have been ble to make it yesterday on 24 hours notice aswell....we have no doubt lost some who won't return, who do other things now....

Once the furore of the Blue dies off a bit & if the football remains as shite as it has been crowd numbers will soon drop.
Also if we start losing a few games as I expect we will this will only add to it & the moaning regarding Slade etc will start again.

On the plus side let's hope with his new signings we actually pick up, start keeping more possession & create a bit more attractive, pacey football.

Re: 22,500 disapointed

Sun Jan 11, 2015 11:26 am

In my work there are alot of periphial cardiff supporters (glory supporters if you want to call them that) and also general football fans who when the news of a return to blue came out, were straight away looking to get hold of a ticket.

I would say about 10-12 people in my relatively small office were put off straight away by the cheapest ticket available to them of £28. None of these people ended up buying a ticket.

This was a deciding factor over the attendance yesterday. It would have probably have been back to premier league size other wise.

We cannot expect large attendences every week when the quality of football is lacking no matter what colour we play in.

Re: 22,500 disapointed

Sun Jan 11, 2015 11:30 am

We have a premiership stadium, if we have any drive and passion for promotion we need this size stadium, we can't get promoted and not have th facilities at our disposal. We aren't going to fill it in this league but we will get closer if/when we do in the future.

we have the seating ready to attract fans, all clubs lose thousands with lack of success(success can be measured different to each club not just trophies) arsenal used to have about 19k before hey started winning things, Chelsea never had a big crowd until they started winning things, it's not glory supporting it's just not a hard core fan. No harm in it and we need more of them so we can over time turn them into hard core fans
