Cardiff City: Alex Revell completes move from Rotherham United
Friday 9th Jan 2015
Cardiff have completed the signing of Rotherham United striker Alex Revell, subject to international clearance.
Revell, 31, was signed by Russell Slade in 2010 when the Bluebirds boss was manager of Leyton Orient.
The 6ft 3in forward, who has also played for Wycombe Wanderers and Swindon, has scored four goals in 26 appearances this season.
Revell joins left-back Scott Malone who signed from Millwall for an undisclosed fee on a deal until June 2017.

Please give the lad a chance now, he has covered more ground this season than any other Championship striker, so he has a great workrate, time will tell but he deserves every chance.

Good signing imo he works hard and can score from what I've seen of him.

Ian, we can't do any worse and I think this lad will work his bollocks off for the shirt, BLUE one I hope

I think it's a fair assumption to say he's not among the more exciting of signings we've made in the past but if as described his work rate is excellent and hes a 100percenter every game then that should be enough for a lot of us. The work rate of our target men is poor at present so he'll give us another option in an area were lacking

Well said.

Kenwyne Jones could well be the more prolific striker in terms of goals but I like the look of Revell. I think he could add more to the team as a whole.

Good luck to him but why does he need international clearance?
But I do hope that he never plays a home game for us in red!

It's a stupid rule because he's moving to wales. Ridiculous as it is, a few players/teams have been caught out with the " international clearance rule" in wales.
Oh,
Welcome Alex Revell, our latest Bluebird!!!

well we don't really know if the club has gone backwards until we see the new players play and how they fit in, it could be a forward step, let us give them a chance

He did well last season and his well taken goals in play-off final. Lets hope he does it here, he was not playing much at Rotherham this season.

Welcome Cardiff Revell

Rotherham fans are NOT HAPPY to say the least about losing this guy and he may not be the most prolific of goal scorers but he will work his bollocks off and may have just the kind of attitude we need at the moment.
Let's give him a chance before we pre-judge him! Welcome to Cardiff, Alex Revell.

Really find it bewildering that people are writing the lad off already because he plays for a lower team. So did Ricky Lambert and Adam Lallana once. Sometimes these players thrive and take advantage of the opportunity they're given. A fresh injection of players of this nature wanting to prove themselves may be exactly what we need. Also, he has 1 in 5 for an up and down Rotherham team and he's a tall lad that can hold the ball up and he also has an exceptional work rate. Get a player like Chopra in alongside him that presses high as well and we'll have a much better team. One of the main problems we have at the moment is our strikers rarely close down on a level we've seen in the past. This allows pressure to come onto the midfield more quickly and the midfield of the opposition to play and create space in the middle of the park to stretch us. We need to offload prima donnas like Jones and get grafters back in.

And very rarely injured, it's January and not easy to get players, I'll give him my support

some of the best players this country has ever produced came from lower league clubs can you imagine all the modern fans moaning and laughing now if Liverpool signed a scunthorpe player !! Rush did ok

Will give him a chance, good thing for him is I have very little expectations so he wont have to do much to impress me.

Alex Revell
Moved to Cardiff today for an undisclosed fee.
I know this should be in the transfers thread, but I'd like to place on record my appreciation of Revs in his time at RUFC & thanks for scoring the best goal I've ever seen from a Millers player in last season's playoff final.
IMO, a true Millers legend & Evans has got it so, so wrong by selling him. The amount of stick he gets from opposing centre-backs without complaint, his excellent hold up play, & the amount of chances he creates for others whilst not being particularly prolific himself will be missed. Agard wouldn't have scored half the 26 goals he got last season if it wasn't for Revs.
I really hope he does the business for Cardiff & enjoys the next stage in his career.
You'll be missed Revs, & good luck!!!!

There's no reason why he can't do really well. Plenty of precedents, like Ricky Lambert. I don't see any real partnership or understanding between Jones and Alf, which is essential given Slade' s favoured 4-4-2. Maybe Revs can strike up a partnership with one of our strikers. Feruz perhaps, if we sign him.

Lets give the boy a chance by all reports he will work his bollocks off and may have just the kind of attitude we are missing at the moment who knows he may turn out to be the Leader we are missing on the field at present!
Welcome to Cardiff, Alex Revell.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans insists the club had no option but to sell Alex Revell to Cardiff.
The 31-year-old, whose contract at New York Stadium expired in the summer, penned a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Bluebirds for an undisclosed fee after passing a medical on Thursday.
He leaves the Millers after three and a half years where he scored 34 goals in 170 appearances and was the figurehead of the club's rise from League Two to the Championship.
Evans, who picked Revell in his matchday squad for 121 consecutive games prior to Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth, insists the striker was not going to sign a new deal with the club so they had to cash in.
"Back last April the football club and the representatives of Alex had been in negotiations to extend the player's contract beyond the summer of 2015," Evans said.
"But despite vigorous efforts by both parties sadly an agreement could not be reached.
"In a situation such as this any football club must take advantage of any considerable asset and the final offer from Cardiff City met the valuation of our chairman, who has to be said at all times drives a fierce bargain.
"Alex Revell has simply been stunning for Rotherham United and has given me as his manager some wonderful performances, loyalty, commitment and passion.
"I have spoken to Alex and he knows as a man what my thoughts of him and his young family are.
"Everyone at Rotherham United is indebted to him and he will be welcome back with open arms at any time in the future.
Revell joins up with Russell Slade in south Wales having previously played under him at Brighton and Leyton Orient.
"I've worked with him in the past," said Slade. "He came into the game later than some players do, he's 30-something now and a late developer but he's still improved since he left me at Leyton Orient and I think he will bring a lot to the group.
"He doesn't half work around the pitch. He's not prolific in terms of goalscoring record but what he brings to the team I think will be evident very quickly."
