When Tan fell for CCFC

Thu Jan 08, 2015 9:57 pm

He was invited to watch us at Wembly, we were in Blue and the place was rocking, enough for any newbie to football to get the hairs on the back of the neck standing up.

Instantly he got the bug, next thing he has bought into us and not just financially but also emotionally.

Who is this strange man with a waistband that Simon Cowell would be envious of and even more money than him as well ?
Well like a lot of very (VERY) successful businessmen he is an eccentric.

His business brain seen an opportunity, a club with financial issues, but also a club described by many as a sleeping giant (or maybe a sleeping dragon) a club with a huge catchment area, a new stadium, and all based in a Capitol City, surely with the right people and the right amount of money this team could get to the Premiership and stay there ?

If only the story could have ended there !!

Tan like a kid with a new toy then gets carried away and let's his emotions take over, he is willing to put even more into the club as long as he can change a few things that will enable him to show off his new found love/joy/toy to his own kind back home in Malaysia. And after being allegedly ill advised changes the clubs colours and badge.

In the mean time on the pitch the club is doing well, a manager that is storming the league and even though reluctant to the rebrand a fan base on the brink of the promised land.

Promotion came, the season kicks off, who remembers the Man City game, Tan must have been on top of the world ?!

Then in a few short months the bubble burst, now what actually happened I believe only Tan will ever know, but it seems to have started with allegations over some strange (hindsight is wonderful) transfer dealings which escalated into the eventual sacking of what was perceived to be city's greatest manager in the modern era, the fans had had enough, he'd ripped the heart and sole out of the club with the rebrand then sacked the main man - Tan was no longer the saviour of our club, he wasn't even wanted.

Relegation, fans protest, the wrong appointment of the next manager, when was it all going to end ?

As any good business man would he decides to take control, gets his own manager in and decides to sort the day to day financial running of the club to stop it hemorging any more money, the club briefly stabilises on the pitch, then once again the fans voice thier concerns over the rebrand, Tan takes a stand announces on xmas day that Rec is to stay.

Now here is the interesting bit, season tickets not being applied for, more protests then the dreaded boycott of fans from the biggest domestic competition in world football.

Tans business brain thankfully kicks in, he rationalises and understands that the without the fans his business and his dream will no longer be - this time he gets the right advise regarding the clubs colours etc, agrees to change back to blue, arranges a meeting to make it look like he has listened to the supporters so they once again unite behind the club.

So when we're down the city and playing in blue, let's get the house rocking, because when Tan eventually comes back and steps out of his box and he hears the noise and the hairs once again goes up on the back of his neck, you never know he may take us back to the promised land the right way this time.
