Eoin Doyle has scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Spireites this season

Derby County and Cardiff City have contacted Chesterfield about signing in-form striker Eoin Doyle this month, Sky sources understand.


The 26-year-old Irishman has been prolific during the Spireites’ return season in League One, scoring 21 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.

Sky Sports understands as many as nine clubs are looking at the player, but Chesterfield are reluctant to sell Doyle and it would take a substantial offer to tempt the club into negotiations.

Chesterfield value Doyle between £1m and £2m – and he has 18 months left on his current contract.

The Derbyshire club would be at pains to lose a player who has scored 34 goals since joining from Hibernian in 2013 but, with a list of transfer targets of their own, they believe they would be in a strong position to replace him.

Chesterfield have signed just one player so far in the January transfer window; a month-long loan deal for Sheffield Wednesday’s teenage forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.

But they could yet add more players in the current window as they continue to strengthen their position in League One. The club are seventh – a point off the play-off places but 16 points short of the top-three.

He should come to us and i think he will he will be on the bench if goes to derby and they just signed Darren Bent on loan and got one the top goalscorer in the league.

I'd give mason and Maynard a go,they could form a partnership like the old shearer and sutton(sas)yet they would be known as mnm,s everything they touch would be sweet

Wasn't overly impressed with this lad when he was at Hibs. He did ok in the SPL but by no means prolific. Personally although he has scored goals in the divion below I would be dissapointed as we should be looking at better quality, we whouls be trying to get back up into the Prem and need quality players. This signing fits in with Tans cost cutting as undoubtably would cost less that bigger name targets.

agree the squad is vastly inflated both in numbers, some poor attitudes and wages.

Slade going for lower league players that he knows all about, sensible if he is building to challenge in League one next season if he believes he is going to take us down this season

Why not. Brentford and Bournemouth are prime examples that signing quality lower league players works

disagree about mason being overrated ,I thin hes still got a massive amount of talent,just needs a run of games
