January Transfer Madness...Alex Revell?

Tue Jan 06, 2015 12:53 pm

Just heard the news about us placing a bid for Alex Revell a striker from Rotherham.
Apparently he's scored 4 in 26 league and Cup this season.

I just can't get my head round why are we looking at players who are struggling to find form or who have never proven themselves in the Championship?
Surely January is a time to look at Prem players who arnt getting games or players in champ and below who are in serious form...

To me its another example of Tan telling Slade and his team to ship out the high earners and make a cheap squad.
Or is Slade still stuck in his League One small transfer/wage budget mindset?

Either way it just shows serious lack of ambition to me :?

4 goals in 26 games are you serious! He's 6ft 3 maybe he's sees him as a replacement for Kenwyn but come on even he's got 10 goals!

I love the negativity just because he hasn't scored many goals. I first saw him play in the playoff final and he was the difference between Rotherham going up and Slade taking Leyton Orient up. I've seen him play several times since and he was also impressive against us, hitting the bar with the header at the end. Revell will definitely improve our front line, he will give us something we are lacking and lead the line a lot better than Macheda. I don't care that he's 31, Alex Revell is a hard working, mobile target man who will put it about, lead the line well and give 100%. He will be a good signing for us.

A very good post. He would do a job for us. The people moaning about Revell and Malone don't seem to have realised yet that Slade has very little money to spend. Tan has clearly pulled the plug on further funding and I don't blame him for that. The days of big money signings or "frees" on big wages are gone .

Think people are forgetting Slade needs players to suit his style play, obviously at
present some of current players don't fit it! Time will tell if hes getting right players in? :old:

Very true.
Slade is looking to sign 'an old fashioned' centre forward who doesn't score many goals to go with his old fashioned style & tactics. Seems par for the course.

Russell Slade’s Cardiff City have made a bid for Rotherham United striker Alex Revell, according to Wales Online.

Revell, 31, has played under Slade for both Brighton and Leyton Orient in recent seasons, and has attracted the attentions of his former manager again as Cardiff look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The Millers’ man can take huge credit for Rotherham’s incredible rise from League Two to the Championship, most noticeably for scoring the two goals in the League One play-off final against Slade’s Leyton Orient.

Steve Evans will be reluctant to let Revell leave this January, despite the criticism the striker has received by supporters who have been frustrated at his lack of goals at this level.

In total, Revell has scored 34 goals in 170 appearances, but he is out of contract in the summer. Negotiations over a new contract have reportedly stalled, opening the door for discussions with Cardiff City over a potential move.

Revell was left out of the Rotherham match-day squad for the first time in 121 games on Saturday due to a chest infection, ending a record that stretches from October 2012. He has been part of the furniture at the New York Stadium for six years.

Preston North End, Barnsley and Sheffield United are also on the radar of the journeyman, according to Wales Online.

Fingers crossed he doesn't sign any old fashioned defenders who can't defend to go with them ..........

At the end of the day if a striker doesn't score goals then the team will score less goals unless he is a pound shop Mark Hughes I think it is a terrible signing unless he is going to be played in a different position. Saying that Rudy had an average record for us and seems to be better for Rovers.

This all links back to Malky.

Having to look at these kind of players that Slade thinks we needs a striker.

Malky screwed us over financially and has put this club in a mess in terms of money.

Cutting costs like getting rid of high earners and sacking staff in all aspects of the club.

Cheers MM. :notworthy:

Yes and we have forwards now who cant score! Defenders who can't defend! So nothing different then? Except they are not his players

What are everyones opinions on Alex Revell now? I thought he had a good debut and backed up everything I said in my post. The majority were negative about this signing. I hope everyone is more optimistic and will get behind him now.

I thought he did well when he came on and I'd like to see him play alongside Kenwyne, particularly as we like to lump the ball forward a lot.

Bit worried that with him and Le Fondre up front together we'd have a strike force that's only scored 6 goals betwenn them in about 50 games this season.

Well it's obviously it bit early to give a proper opinion but he had a decent game for me. He's very mobile and had some classy touches & won a few headers. Always looking and wanting the ball.
Whether or not he can score the goals is the big question!?
Why was Jones taken off? Was he injured because I thought he was playing really well?

You look spot on. Liked the look of him today, done great lay offs for other players but as soon as he had 1 badge touch there were moans and groans
