" MIDWAY SEASON TARGETS "

Sat Jan 03, 2015 11:03 am

At the start of the season, Ole had spent considerable money on trying to put a squad together capable of mounting a serious promotion challenge.

I think many City fans, including myself, thought that a play-off spot was achievable.

At just over the halfway stage and the revolving door at City still spinning what do you think Russell Slade's end of season target is ?

Surely he is not thinking automatics are achievable.

So is it play-off spot, consolidation or avoid relegation ?

I personally believe it is consolidation.

Carl any hope of automatic promotion was over when we failed to beat Rotherham and after 23 games NO team in the last 10 years has gone on to win automatic promotion with only 31 points at the halfway stage. The Reading team a few years ago who came from nowhere to win the League had 36 points after 23 games. After 24 games they had 39 points.

On average teams who make the playoffs have 36 points after 24 games which is 5 ahead of where we are so whilst that is possible, Palace did it 11 years ago with just 28 points after 24 games. So the playoffs are highly unlikely which only leaves avoiding relegation and as Wolves 2 years ago had 31 points, same as us, and went down that remains possible.

Avoiding relegation is the target.

With what we've got, avoid relegation, probably end up mid table.

If Ole stayed we may have pushed for the playoffs.
If we got in a Decent manager after ole I'd have expected playoffs pushing for top 2.
We got slade and hope we stay up now.

It wouldn't have been acceptable at start of the season, but a top half finish now would be very good, I'd take survival and a rebuild in the summer - last January and the summer window have fecked our club more than we might ever have thought, OGS was a disaster and nearly any successor would have struggled. Prepared to give Slade this window to get us on an even footing but that may not happen. If he manages to do that and the second half of the season brings a better quality of football and improved results he should be given the summer window to continue the rebuild. Sacking him now would not be beneficial to us as a club.

I would settle for 7 more wins to get us over the 50 point mark .

At the start of the season 90 points would have been the target. With 22 games left 43 points would be the target which would get us to 74 points for the season. Anything less than that sort of points total and he should be sacked. We can't waste more time on people who are not up to the job. Ole wasn't up to it and it looks like Slade isn't either.

At the moment, avoid relegation. If things pick up a bit, consolidation.

Got a feeling that nobody in the bottom half of the table will be safe until very late on.

The way it's looking with his 'potential targets' then I think Slade is building fir a challenge on the Division 1 title

No ambition, out with quality and in with a bus full of lower league players.

6th place should be our realistic target.

I think we have a poor team, not poor players, but a poor team, however they are not bad enough for relegation but I just can't see us being consistent enough to make the playoffs either. So consolidation is the name of the game for me

We won't be anywhere near 6th spot. It's consolidation at best. Next season won't be any better either.
