Cardiff City close in on Millwall defender Scott Malone as Nicky Maynard prepares for exit
Any deal to bring 23-year-old Malone to South Wales could see striker Nicky Maynard head in the other direction
Cardiff City are closing in on Millwall left-back Scott Malone after tabling a second offer for the former Bournemouth defender.
And any deal to bring the 23-year-old to South Wales could see striker Nicky Maynard head in the other direction.
Malone, 23, is out of contract at the end of this season, with Millwall manager Ian Holloway resigned to losing him.
Holloway is thought to be keen on an exchange of players rather than a cash deal and has already turned down a £75,000 offer. Cardiff’s new bid is around £100,000.
Millwall, though, are in desperate need of attacking improvements and there are suggestions from London Maynard could fit the bill.
Maynard is out of contract this summer and has not started a match since Russell Slade was appointed manager.
City paid £2.5m to West Ham for Maynard at the start of 2012/13, but he can walk away for nothing at the end of this season.
The Bluebirds may also be open to allowing Maynard out on loan, even paying part of his wages.

Swapping a player who hasn't played and on a high wage makes sense.
After all we are trimming the wage bill and clearing out non starters

would bite millwalls hands off for his deal, maynards head is gone, he is far from scoring 10+ goals a year right now and needs a season under his belt which we can not afford to give him. high wages gone and strengthen an area we are weak at at LB (since fabio is going)

i'd rather maynard than macheda up front at the moment.
surely maynard feels some sense of giving something back to CCFC? he's been here 2.5 years, has drawn a large salary from the club, and contributed next to nothing. if he sits out the remaining 6 months of his deal and goes on a free he must go down as one of the worst value transfers we have ever made.

Unfortunately, Maynard hasn't been the same player since he returned such a serious injury. We haven't had a decent left back for about 10 years and perhaps this boy can fill the gap.
Makes sense to me.

Can't we give them Macheda instead?
At least we will get a nominal fee for Maynard

I would rather sell macheda and keep Maynard

Fair enough he isn't as good as he was but he Is still better than Macheda.
Cost cutting? Don't think Macheda and lefondre are on low wages, not giving the club their money's worth either.

Can see where you coming from however it was his injury that prevented him from playing in his 1st year, didn't get a chance in his 2nd year in the premier, and this year we have had 2 managers who are clueless so I don't think it is his fault that this transfer is not working out, alot of money wasted yes but still not Maynards fault and given a run in this team would do him good, certainly no worse than what we already have.
